Default 7000 gas onan generator question

2008 7000 carb onan generator-2800 hrs.this has been a good setup on a 32ft tag trailer with side door instalation at factory with 16 gal tank.the question is about fuel usage.seems to use a lot lately.I am giving it a thought to replace it with a diesal gen set.but what are the options? thought about having a front cabinet built on the front of 32ft box and put a deisal gen in it if possible.have not seen that added to a trailer of this size.could just buy a honda gas 7000 get set.but it does not use the xternal tank and you have to bring jugs and fill it up.just looking for knowlege from racers that have been down this path.this would be a winter project.Forest river trailers are in my town and they can build the cabinet for me I think.

Diesel generators are much more efficient than gas. I have a Onan 8k diesel generator in my toter. It uses much less fuel than the 6.5 gas generator in my trailer. The diesel will burn about 5 gals of fuel per day running it 24 hrs a day. The gas will burn about 12-15 gallons per day. I would recommend the diesel.

An inverter type generator runs at various speeds depending on the amp load demand. Saves a lot of fuel usually unless running under heavy load all the time.

Your 7kw gas runs at the same speed no matter what the load.

You may not even need the 7 kw's amp output capability and might be better off buying a smaller inverter type gas unit and mounting it on the trailer tongue.

There are quite a few units out there in the 3000-4300 watt output range and are inverters.

Diesels are great but big, heavy and the smell can be annoying.....

You might check on external fuel tank conversions for the Honda EU7000IS.

I found this one with a quick Google search, there are probably others.
