Default Ring vs cylinder wall hardness

Has anyone come up with the ring hardness in relation to cylinder wall hardness and what is best?

Things you let slip into your mind during lunch.

Wouldn't that be the aforementioned Gregg Luneack?

I would ask one of these guys about it, I feel both of them would be happy to talk to you.

The real thing cylinder wall hardness affects is how you hone the bores and what stone you use, also what honing oil and pressure you use on the honing stones!

Many years ago, Tony Feil would hone our S/S blocks to a mirror finish for the .043 moly filled top rings.
After a while we wanted to try the stainless dykes. Tony said we had to hone the blocks to the standard cross hatch pattern.
What does that tell you ?

Check out the videos of the Engine Performance Expo Series that was put on by Total Seal and Rottler. Here are a couple on cylinder wall finish considerations.
