Default CCMP Race #4 at Farmington Dragway

It's time to get the 2nd half of our 2024 Liberty's Gears CCMP season rolling & we start at Farmington Dragway this Saturday, August, 24th. This weekend is an annual race at Farmington Dragway Jerry & Norman's Memorial Legends of the Farm #14 Reunion-Gathering-Race-Show. This weekend is truly a time for our CCMP class to shine so it's up to you racers to make that happen!!

Gates open at 5 p.m. on Friday with testing/racing beginning at 6 p.m.

Saturday gates open at 8 a.m. with time runs beginning at 10 a.m. Run order for Saturday is as follows: Footbrake, Top, CCRA, & CCMP. We will follow the same schedule that we have all year with 2 qualifying runs to establish the ladder, then roll straight into eliminations. Hodges Custom Homes is the Top Qualifier Sponsor for the #1 qualifier with the racer receiving $200.00 Cash. At 2 p.m. on the starting line, there will be a Jerry & Norman's Wall of Fame Inductions which will include Mr. Jimmie & Mrs. Anne Flynt so let's be sure to be up there to show our support to those fine folks! Scenic Motors/Butner Construction is the title race sponsor and GBM Land and Construction is the associate sponsor for this race.

* Entry fee: $200.00
* @CCMP t-shirts & hoodies will be available for purchase

We had off since May so all of y'all should be ampted up & ready to race by now. There is no reason we shouldn't have a record car count at this race. Farmington Dragway has always been a HUGE supporter of our series & we owe it to them to put on one heck of a show. The stands should be packed on Saturday there so let's give everyone something to talk about.

CCMP is the glory days of racing with the high winding, stick shifting, wheel standing old Modified cars! Let's keep it ALIVE for many years to come!!!

Default Re: CCMP Race #4 at Farmington Dragway

Liberty's Gears Farmington Dragway Race Recap #4:

In 2023 when this series was initially brought to light, the first event was scheduled to take place at Farmington Dragway but due to their improvements last year, we had to move the race to Rockingham Dragway. Thankfully we were able to come back to Farmington Dragway this year & be apart of a very special, annual race event at their track, Jerry & Norman's Memorial Legends of the Farm #14 Reunion-Gathering-Race-Show. Although we only had six cars in attendance for this past weekend's race, I personally feel that it was one of the best races of the year.

Darrel Lail BM, Steve Johnson EM, Strawberry Dixon BM (new engine combo), Mark Moreland DM, Ronnie Yopp DM, & Robbie Draughon AM were at The FARM property to try to claim the coveted CCMP camshaft trophy. All 6 racers made a run in Q1; of course some better than others. Draughon lead the way after Q1 running a 5.2338 @ 132.74 mph on his 5.90 index (0.6662). This was a tough one for this girl here as this was the "scene of the crime" from Robbie's accident back in June. Luckily I have an awesome support system behind me & they were there with comfort!!! Johnson was 2nd after Q1 (0.6288), followed by Lail (0.5193), Moreland (0.1196), Dixon (-1.026), & Yopp (-1.5483). During Q2, a few struggled to make a full pass which resulted in the final qualifying order getting a shake up. Strawberry, with his new engine combo, found himself on top of the Q sheet for the first time in 2024 & collecting $200.00 for the Hodges Custom Homes Top Qualifier Award. He went a 5.3299 @ 130.81 mph on his 6.01 index (0.6801). Draughon takes the #2 spot (0.6662), #3 Johnson (0.6288), #4 Lail (0.5193), #5 Moreland (0.2687), & Yopp rounding out the 6 (0.2598). The ladder is set with Dixon & Lail going head to head in a BM heads up, Draughon taking on Moreland, & Johnson taking on Yopp where Yopp hopes to take the $100.00 Bounty put on Steve by anonymous sponsor. Our BM heads up is the 1st pair out with Lail handing the round win over to Dixon after a -.1824 RT. Dixon would have been hard to beat as he improved from his Q2 run (0.6812). Johnson & Yopp were the 2nd pair with this one also being decided at the start when Yopp when -.0092. Johnson slowed to a 5.9744 @ 116.31 mph on his 6.50 index (0.5256) but still picked up the round win. Final pair brought Draughon versus Moreland. Both drivers were nearly identical at the hit with Draughon taking the round win running 5.2995 @ 131.96 mph on his 5.90 index (0.6005).

Round #2 pairings put Draughon against Johnson with Strawberry collecting the BYE run his his #1 qualifying position. Both Robbie & Steve took a nap at the start but Robbie was able to collect the $100.00 bounty for taking out Steve. Robbie ran a 5.2346 @ 132.43 mph on his 5.90 index (0.6654) & Steve ran a 5.9001 @ 117.07 mph on his 6.50 index (0.5999). Dixon made a full pass on his bye run in the opposite lane than he had been in all day running a 5.3346 @ 130.55 mph on his 6.01 index (0.6754).

The finals brings us Strawberry Dixon BM against Robbie Draughon AM. Both of these guys have had their own obstacles this year so it was a great sight to see with them making it to the finals. Dixon had lane choice & choose the right lane. Strawberry had issues getting off the starting lane handing the win over to Robbie. It would have made for one heck of a finals if Strawberry had been able to make his run. Robbie made his fastest run of the day in the finals clocking a 5.2227 @ 132.63 mph (0.6773). This is his first CCMP win & the first race out with his new color scheme after the unfortunate accident in June. Robbie received his race winnings as well as a $100.00 gift certificate to Altronics Inc, a $50.00 gift certificate to Meziere Enterprises, $100.00 gift certificate to Edelbrock Performance, $100.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, a 5 gallon pail of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 116+ racing fuel, & a can of FOGGIT. Strawberry collected his race winnings as well as a certificate for a set of E3 Ignition spark plugs, $100.00 gift certificate to Crew Chief Pro Software, a 50% off one item from Zamp Racing, $50.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, $50.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, & a 5 gallon pail of fuel of F25 racing fuel courtesy of Fuel Factory.

Caleb Beaman once again made the signature CCMP trophy courtesy of engine parts from COMP Cams & Robbie Draughon Powertrain Development. Mark Joyce of MJ Custom Printing & Graphics made the trailer checks for both winner & runner-up.

Our next race is mid September at Darlington Dragway & hopefully it will be a little cooler by then.
