Actually this is a big opportunity to make big changes by NHRA to the pro racing. Go to 50pct nitro this off season. Casual fans will not notice the difference, certainly will not see the difference on TV. How much more affordable will it be for the entry level Nitro racer.
Everyone will complain for a year, then it business as usual. Nitro $55 ? a gallon, just paid $5. a gallon for VP M1 at Cecil.

and less major carnage, so sportsman may get another round or 2 on sunday
There's little to no information for us at 50% nitro. We don't want to go below 85%.
Nitro costs us $25 a gallon on the open market
But $40 to buy at a national. We have no choice so we buy it from NHRA.
If the nitro was around 50%, our 1000' ets wouldn't be much quicker then the alcohol dragsters.
The fuel cost isn't a killer for us with just 1 day of qualifying.
Recertifying so much stuff every year gets costly though.

What about Parts attrition at 50pct? And the opportunity to go to 1320ft? What would 85pct nitro do to ET,s and parts attrition?

We're already on the rev limiter around 850ft. So we're simply holding onto our balls the last 150ft or so already. So going another 320ft would actually be more costly for us even if we go down to 85%. We're usually running 89% - 89.5%.

Sure, 50% would be A LOT less violent. But it's not a good idea. Because again, 50% with a supercharger (TF) compared to 95% without a supercharge (A/Fuel) would sound different, but the ETs and speed would be nearly identical. So then you're having to slow down TAD which isn't fair to them.

99.99% of nitro teams are fine with the current setup. We like just about everything we're doing with the power, 1000', duel mags, 14-71 super charger, etc.
