Tom, according to the rule book it’s not legal although many racers use it. My personal belief is they use it so their roll bar doesn’t get scratched. The rule book sez…. Roll bar must be padded anywhere drivers helmet may contact it while in driving position…Adequate padding must have a minimum 1/4 inch compression or meet SFI spec 45.1…All cars 9.99 or quicker SFI spec 45.1 is mandatory…. It’s my head so I like Roll bar padding just in case THINGS go upside down …..

We just installed carbon covers on the side bars this winter to essentially protect against scratching. Still have actual SFI rollbar padding around head and upper body contact points, but the carbon covers are very lightweight and thin so they fit seamlessly between rollbar and inner door.

Where did you purchase your carbon covers?

Just Google "carbon roll bar protector" and you will find lots of places that sell them, from Summit to Amazon.
