I don't know of any car guys that would say I wish my engine was the first one he built when referring to a young automotive machinist. But in the not so far future when you've made your mark lots of people will wish they had that bragging right. Great work young man!

Is that a 67 block with the vent tube to the outside?

I'm sure Mike is getting excellent advice from his dad. I recognized the cart in the first pic.

I would be very pleased for Mike Jones to build an engine for me with all due respect to my man Bill Ceralli.

Yes it is; from the opening post on this thread "I've always been fascinated by first generation Z/28s, which brings me to my first engine rebuild, a 1966 October 657 casting block with matching 462 casting heads."

A Road draft tube is what that was called and was on a lot of engines going back many years.

If you were behind an old car with one and they let off the gas coasting and their engine was a little worn, you’d see smoke trailing out from under the car from the tube. The idea was to create a little suction across the bottom of the tube to help vent the crankcase

They were pretty Sloppy and oil leaked out of there.

PVC systems replaced the RDTubes

I have a short tale of a all original 69 Z/28 ,the dark green color,in a garage near my home, this was a virgin mary car ,all original ,,this is early 80,s,i asked if it was for sale,i had no money but I asked anyway,i would drive around his block 4or 5 times to look at this jewel,,he never drove it from what I herd,i fell in love with that car, dont know were it went ,guy moved, could not find one to restore so I found a 69 chevelle 300 deluxe 283 that was put in. 3spd standard on column, for $125.00 , in 1978 I still have it,set up for racing ,its a garage queen since a divorce and a house purchase
