V/SA 225 2 bbl. I think I have enough stuff laying around I can run the index maybe.

I turn 65 in 3 weeks. It's going to be my retirement project.

You could even run the 8 1/4 in that if you could find
the needed parts.

My 80 Mirada 318 O/SA ran a 8 1/4 forever without breakage!

With the power level and weight you will have I would consider a 8 3/4 Detroit locker. The Locker for the 489 case fits up to 4.56 gears.
Most of the time a Locker will have a spool beat on MPH. 30 spline gives you plenty of choices in Stock or stock re-splined axels That
are budget friendly and plenty strong. If you do go all out on axels a 30 spline has a weight advantage.
I'm not sure, but you might even find a gun drilled 30 is available.

I had thought about the 8-1/4, but then I would be back to starting at 0, I have no parts for one.

This is kinda going to be a "dime rocket" but more likely a "50 cent rocket".

Thanks for all the replies.

if you are going to use a spool, measure what axles lengths you require. i may have a free set of aftermarket axles
