Default Stage the Car?

Dear Mr and Mrs Opinionators:

To complete acquiring a grade point at an event IF you're not planning on racing do you know if:

1. You pay to enter, tech car, go home

2. Pay to enter, tech, stage car once

3. Pay enter, tech, make a pass.

Waiting on a c/b from NHRA but of course today is Saturday so I'd thought I'd ask you fine gentlemen.

Thank you

BMF

I would have to inquire again but I believe at one point you had to be on the qualifying sheet ?

Step one tow/bring legal car to event
Step two pay entry money at gate or online (whatever that div is making you do at that event)
Step three tech car in for event. Either online or at track whatever that div requires
Step four race you car at event or don't NHRA doesn't care. You have made the required steps to earn a grade point. There is not requirement that you must stage to earn a grade point.

Now if your not on a qualifying sheet and you paid online and tech your car in online NHRA may require you to show proof you were on the grounds at sometime during the event with the car you tech in online. its up to the Div director if they want to take it that far.
but if they had a paper tech card that shows you passed tech with a race car that is all that is required.

Pretty sure NHRA posted something about this, maybe needing a Q run if everything was done online, Think it was to address people doing everything online and not showing up just to get grade points. Based on below guess if everything was online you would have to get tech to look at the car even if u don’t make a run.

Grade Point Requirement Clarification

For a Participant to enter a Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series or National Open event and receive a grade point. The Driver and vehicle must be present at the event. The car at the event must be legal for the class being entered. Any abuse of this system will constitute the forfeiture of entry and grade point. No refunds or exchanges when entry is purchased online and not showing at event.

You need to make a qualifying pass to race.... or at least stage your car to be put on the bottom of the sheet.... but you can get a grade point if you don't.
Example -
I few years ago I showed up to points meet on a Saturday to make the last Q session and run elims...... the starter broke when I got to the front of the staging lanes.... I wasn't able to make the run.....

..... I thought I could be put at the bottom of the sheet - but I found out that if that happens the rules say you can't run the race. They can't put you on the bottom of the sheet. They can only do that if the qualifying session gets washed out or cancelled....

Anyway - I was given a choice..... they keep the money and I get a grade point.... or..... a refund and no grade point.

So my guess is if you are paid up and tech in and don't make a run - you will still receive a grade point.

I was at Numidia this year for the National Open and the Divisional in July, I had signed up for both online and filled out both my tech cards online. Unfortunately on Thursday morning at the track during a test run I broke a rocker, bent a valve and caused some minor damage to the head. We packed up the car and got to Ray Barton's shop shortly after, pulled the engine, they repaired everything needed and we got the engine back in the car the next morning and were back at the track Friday evening. We missed making a qualifying or elimination pass for the National Open, but raced on Saturday and Sunday for the divisional.

Everyone I spoke with told me I should still get 2 grade points since I was there and filled out a tech card and paid for both races even though I was unable to make a pass for the national open, but after the fact when I looked I was only given 1 grade point for the weekend.

I've emailed the division office about it twice explaining what happened and asking whether I was entitled to 1 or 2 grade points, but have not received a response from them either time.

Seems something like this should be standardized across all divisions. As often as I have heard different stories from different div directors it seems it should be as simplified as the lug nut rules

For what it's worth at the Sonoma double divisional a few years ago someone broke into my truck after the first race in a mall parking lot. Between the stuff they took and getting the window they broke replaced I completely missed the second race. But I had paid and was teched in and I got my grade point.
