Re: Jerry Ryan
Hey Jim. This is Rick. Dad's recovery is going to be a long one. He was transferred to the rehab unit at Sanford in Sioux Falls on Tuesday last week. He will stay down there until Feb 9th at that point he will come back to Aberdeen here and finish up his rehab in a nursing/rehab facility here. His speech is pretty good and does pretty well in conversation still at times has some confusion and will get off track on things. But still pretty sharp when you ask a direct question about anything. Physically he is still has pretty much no movement on his left side. He can move his hand and foot but that is about the extent of it for now. I'm hoping I can make it down there one day next week and spend some time with him and see his progress before he comes back home. I do know he's very anxious to get back to work. Which I hope he'll eventually be able to.
Thanks everyone for the thoughts and well wishes. Rick Ryan |

Re: Jerry Ryan
Hello Rick. Very sorry to hear about your dads stroke. I had the same experience with my dad about 10 years ago. He had a stroke following some elective surgery. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone. If you have any questions regarding his condition or care you can reach out to me and I will let you know what I learned. My dad was able to make a recovery and had a few good years before we lost him to complications due to the stroke. His was a massive stroke. Most likely your dad will make a recovery and regain at least some of his movement and mobility. One issue with stroke is swallowing. If there is a facial droop he might need swallowing therapy, This was the case with my dad and the therapy restored his ability to swallow.
You can PM me on this site if you have questions Best regards Mike.
