Re: 1969 records in Nov.
Tom, thanks for posting these records, when i recently cleaned out my attic i was hoping to find a copy of these records but was unable to do so.
The first points race held at Gainesville was '69, I drove Sherman Adcock Srs '67 Biscayne 427-425 car and we set the C/S record as you can see at 11.99, we were also credited with the win* when our final round opponent was disqualified on a technicality. Seems like yesterday and I have no idea how many times I've been there since but have loved this track since that first divisional there. Thanks again, Jimmy Parker |

Thanks for posting (again) Tom.
Here is my attempt at the cars, engines, factoring. Pretty sure of most of them but guesses are in pink shaded boxes. Maybe you or Jimmy or others can remember. |

Re: 1969 records in Nov.
Mr. Kasch, thanks for posting these. I still have the record certificate from the A/S mph record from September 13, 1969. This was the first race where Tom Stenzel and I took this car. It was the first time it had gone down the track. I made two passes at 11.653 and 11.651, but NHRA said "you didn't break the record, you tied it". I guess we were fortunate to get the speed record. We eventually got a handle on the car and went 11.07@ 124+ the next year, when the new classification put it in B/S. Thanks again for posting some old memories. I wish Tom was still here to enjoy them.

Re: 1969 records in Nov.
Noticed that a couple of Ramon Lowe '58 Pontiacs were on the list, in H/SA & I/SA.
He & Gene Brown both ran '58's. Don't know if maybe Gene drove the I/SA car, or not. Assuming he probably did. There's a '65 Pontiac in J/SA. The name doesn't ring a bell. And I can't think of a '65 Pontiac that ran that class. A '65 GTO would have run higher. I assume it was a heavier Pontiac. But, I just checked the Class Racer Info site. In '65, there was an assortment of 326, 389, & 421 engines available. Last edited by oldskool; 08-25-2021 at 11:33 PM. |
