Budget. 1977 Carter adm. made it possible for the Fed. to "borrow" funds from S.S.. 1982 Regan adm. made it possible to "tax" S.S. if certain income thresholds (50%) were met (obtw, on a bipartisan vote) based on income. 1993 Clinton adm. raised "taxable" threshold from 50% to 85%..

What else would you like to talk about? How about those racist Kennedy bros. and the way they tried to trash M.L.K. Jr.?
How about Johnson's "Great Society" and his famous quote, "I'll have those n----rs voting Democrat for the next 200 years!".

You failed to mention that Carter raised payments of Social Security by 14%. Under Reagan Fed chief Paul Volcker pushed interest rates to new heights—21.5 percent in 1982. The sky-high rate pulled inflation down, but took its toll on the economy, which shrunk by 3.6 percent during the 16-month recession and saw unemployment peak at over 10 percent.


This long and deep recession finally ended following a combination of tax cuts and defense spending under Ronald Reagan.But did he cut taxes on Social Security...NO, he signed into law a tax on it. Kind of like robbing from the old and poor and giving to the rich.


There is little I can do about the actions and words of men 70 years ago. What we can do is learn from the past and not continue repeat the same. "They are all good people" is not the answer.
