Default Are We All Hackers?

"Of course, when I say “hackers,” I mean that in a very complimentary way."

I can relate to that.
Every bit of my wrench turning experience has been thru " hacketry "

I have zero hours of training.
I would read a car magazine article and then attempt it.

It was all trial and error.

Error...as in $$ lost.....A LOT of money lost.....lol

I have found that the ability to "figure things out" is becoming a lost art. Not just in the automotive world, but everywhere. Nearly every tech I have interviewed or hired over the years in my IT company can't troubleshoot their way out of a paper bag. They want everything handed to them in black and white...

I am old school that way as well. No formal training in anything I do. I am a commercial construction superintendent for a living so I see all kinds of challenges on the job site. Most workers on the job are very unskilled now days. Most are latino in my area.

On the racecar stuff I do everything myself. Assemble the engine, transmission and rear end. I built my car from the ground up many years ago. did all of the welding and fabricating myself. Again its old school but its an easy car to work on and fun to race. It ain't real fast but that's ok. When I was young I had a good mentor. He taught me the basics of drag race cars.

I am pretty much a do it your self guy. I fix what I can on my cars and trucks and around the house. I am a tool junkie and have lots of tools welders and torches to play with.

The ability to "figure things out" has been what has gotten me where I am today. I've have made and will still make mistakes but I will keep learning and progressing until they're throwing dirt on top of me! So, Yes then I'm a Hacker as well.
