Default Stock/SuperStock Teardown

Although this is always a controversial subject, perhaps its time to move
forward on this, and realize it is not 1980 anymore.
Presently, I have seen 3 different types of teardowns. 1) Where carbs or
throttle bodies have been checked, camshafts have been checked, and the entire car has been given the once over. 2) The more traditional teardown
where all the above is done, plus removing a head and having it poured,
bore & stroke, etc. 3) The traditional teardown Plus pull the motor, check
cranks, rods, pistons, blocks, etc.
While we like when our competitors get a 2 or 3 teardown, nobody thinks
it happens often enough. I don't know that we have the ability to change
that. NHRA does it when they want, how they want.
To make it easier on everybody physically & mentally, I think we could be a little happier, if all Class Winners, LODRS Winners, and National Event Winners had at least Teardown # 1, PLUS, an inspection with a camera of the cylinder, piston dome, valve reliefs, valves, etc. This would be followed by a P&G to get total cubic inches.
Perfect? Not by a long shot. Better, I think so. At the very least, it's a thought starter that you can add to, modify, or maybe even like.

I think you are on to something. Borescopes have gotten very good, very small, and very cheap. It would be quick & easy to take a look at intake runners and ports, for example.

Drain oil from pan you can scope thru the drain plug and look at crank and rods.

On my dirt motor (IMCA) we have to have site plugs on one side of our oil pan for inspection. Like the ideas mentioned above even though I do not drag race anymore. It does and will keep everyone honest.

IMCA like Nhra lack tech people with knowledge, they both once had pre tech, not so much any more.

Just started getting involved with dirt cars. The IMCA and street stocks take the top 3 after race and tech them what they wanted to see. One night it was all 4 shocks, go no go gauge in 2 barrel carb was used once, front spindles and heads have to have IMCA stamped on them. For a 200 to win they are getting checked pretty well.

Running a Limited Modified and some tracks do not look at much, others look at everything, especially in big money races we can expect to take a head off, carb inspection, suspension etc...

And they also take a coupon of our Hoosier Dirt tires and test it for doping or mysterious substances on the tires (Mainly right rear)

Devin Moran is a local kid. I grew up watching his dad Donnie. Donnie goes to our church. His family owns Zanesville speedway and both those kids jumped in late models when they were in diapers. Devin was just tossed because of doping his tires. He's been winning lately and they busted him. I don't know how the penalties work, but it made all the papers.

Jeff
I follow all 3 drivers that had tires in violation, hate to see this but all racers have been warned many many times about this. All I can say is their tires coupons taken (3) came back with violated integrity of their tires. They tested 3 samples off of tires on 67 different racers and these 3 racers tires did not pass. Huge fan of all 3 drivers. A.J. Foyt once said "you ain't cheating till you get caught". LOL

Here is video of CEO of world of outlaws address this.

Nhra doesn’t have the time or man power to tear people down
Also the 130 under is the new automatic teardown why is that
So there is Less teardown of competitors
There rules to live by
