It can be done but agree with Ed, your chances of winning against electronics zero. However if you want to think outside of the box, I ran super gas way before electronics. Got a hood adjuster bolt, welded the female end to the floor board under gas pedal, screwed in the adjuster and had white slash marks for reference. If you wanted to go faster just turn the screw or vice versa slowing down. Ran a 81 camaro backhalf car with a 468 (that was big back in the day..LOL)

Former World Champ in SG Ed Desault still runs SG with no electronics and only a trans brake no delay box in Division 7 regularly and does very well at National and Division events.
He also runs the nostalgia races and does very well for a guy in his 70?s.

Many, many years ago, at Indy Nats, local Indy racer Greg Gaskin went 9.900 in EACH lane in qualifying. Tubbed 68-72 Nova. Drove back to pits and left hood closed. Had a stream of curious people looking over the car trying to figure it out. His dial in equipment? Secondary opening limit screw in top of secondary vacuum pod. Got him first round bye, went 1 or 2 more rounds. Luck? Probably. Track announcer threw up his hands and handed mic to NHRA guy in tower. Here, I don't know what to say!

I think my friend Ed (for over 50 years) is probable 80 by now.

If my elder memory is right, He was a National Champion some
year back. One of the nicest guys you will meet at the track.

Steve Wann ran Super Gas some years back at LVMS to get a
grade point with his Superstocker, when he could not get in SS because
it was full. He went 4 or 5 rounds (As I recall) and nearly won the
National Race. Of Course, most of us are not Steve Wann caliber!
