Number 77th qualifier actually is the 43rd qualifier based on mineshaft rule since there are 84 old iron cars currently qualified this requires 43 old cars to be -.85 under. He is -.929 under so the mineshaft rule is in effect. Last edited by Bobby Fazio; 09-02-2015 at 01:32 PM. |

Won't take sides in the new car debate but I will add some food for thought.
In 2008 (the last year before ANY new cars showed up) there were 169 Stockers on the final sheet at Indy and the bump was .938-under. In 2015, there are 177 cars on the sheet after Q1 and the bump is .798-under but I'd anticipate that I will be in the .90-92 under range by the time we're done. Obvious conclusion: If I want t run Indy, I'd better have a car that can run .92-under or quicker. Also have to wonder what it was like in the late 1960s when the Super Stock eliminator was a 32 car field (mostly class winners) and there were as many as 200 cars on the entry list. Hard to imagine sending that many drivers home early but then again, we had 4 national events in 1968. |

Random notes after Super Stock Q1:
160 cars made runs Bump is Don Bales SS/AH Hemi car at -.557 (8.743) Only four cars more than a second under (Skillman, Cotten, Leopold Jr. and Twitchell) 21 Hemi Challenge cars (but only 8 of them are currently qualified) a pair of '68 Barracudas racing as GT cars so obviously not part of the Hemi Challenge (Eric Bell and Eric Bardekoff). |

Kevin,
I'm pretty sure that 2008 was prior to the .30 index adjustment. So the .938 would be a .638 in relation to the index. So the field has picked up a tenth. Last edited by Terry Bride; 09-02-2015 at 02:04 PM. |

PATSY - KEVIN - KEN ... fabulous job of keeping those of us who are elsewhere well informed. I Wouldn't go to the extent of choosing to stay home on account of the on-line 'play-by-play', but its surely a wonderful alternative for both the 'would be' competitor and the racing fan that simply just couldn't make the trip.
You're all truly a valuable resource for the sport we love!

I think I'd pay good money to watch Chris Holbrook's Cobra Jet and Clay Arnett's COPO run a best-of-three match race. They are currently the gold standard of supercharged Factory Stock racers and I think it would be every bit as exciting (with similar elapsed times) as a Bob Glidden vs. Lee Shepherd match from about 1981.Now, we just need to get someone (Barton? Tueton?) to build a competitive blown Mopar.

While I'm flooding this thread with a lot of random thoughts how about this:
The Factory Stock Showdown (FS/XX) winner takes on the Hemi Challenge champ for an "Indy King of the Hill" title. Heads-up, no breakout. Wolkwitz (8.554) and Holbrook (8.560) current leaders in each class. |
