I had to look long and hard to find a contribution from a California politician, besides from R Reagan. I did find something
It turns out this guy was quite a songwriter in an earlier career. Written by Jack Nitzsche , who was Phil Spector's right hand man , and Congressman Salvatore Phillip "Sonny" Bono, (R -Watts, Compton) for Jackie DeShannon, but this was the first hit version: (I purposely left out you know who in this discussion ;-) )
