I remember about Labor day maybe the week before we would cruise the very back corners of either the dealership or the remote storage lots for the larger dealerships & usually hidden between the vans/trucks they would hide the new models. course you usually talked to the zooger in the back that did the new car prep and he "new" where

everything was hidden----use to do it on Sundays cause the place was closed or after dark nobody would bother you then----Truck stops were a great place to see the new stuff too especially where the car transport drivers would eat

Not like it used to be since the Govt started building cars in 1972-3.
Well when your hungry "eat your Japenese car" they were cheap in 1970 and they are still cheap now---Wonder how this whole Toyota deal is gonna play oot--- But I digress!!!! Comp 387

YES 54 going on 24....get it out of the garage and drive it....it's still fun....get it out of that enclosed trailer and drive it....

The way we keep hiding our toys in the garage and in the trailer....theres no wonder that people are starting to forget them....how can you bring people into the culture when you keep hiding the goodies.....get it out and drive it !

WHEN YOU STOP TRYING.....YOU START DYING !

I ran at Orange a few times early sixties. Injected buick in 50 ford owned by Ronnie Lepalm. also ran my roadster there in early eighties if my memory serves me right. Someone put togeter a sunday race trying to promote a new track for the northeast. I beilive Wally Roberts, Mike Fitts and Barry Rebero were also there. No traction compound just a great time and many memories.

Any one remember Charleston and the seagulls?

Yes 43

When I was a kid and went to the track with my dad all the cars were 67-69 camaros, 55-57 chevy, mustangs, gto's, cudas, etc. It was awesome. Today the younger guys don't want to class race. My son who is 21 wants to build his 70 nova into a 10.5 car LS turbo power or some crap like that. I asked him why don't we make it a 396 stick car in stock? He said why in the hell would I do that. He says everyone is going that direction in his age group. Nothing we can do about it. Ed

Unfortunately I have to agree. I would have loved to race back in the airstrip days but hey, you deal with what you are given. I am 21 and I know that car culture will never be like it was for all of you guys growing up, but I absolutely love bracket racing (apparently there are getting to be fewer of us that do at my age) and older cars and wince any time I see a Civic or Acura burn down the quarter with 75 pounds of NOS to ensure that it can keep up with the other cars.

I'm a 1967 model got to start going to track when I was 2 years old My Dad ran modified.
I'm 42 now and even people my age some have raced 20 years don't have a clue what class cars even are you can explain give examples of how fast they are with whats allowed and they just look at you like you are crazy or like they did'nt hear a word you said.
My opinion is at 42 I'm one of the few my age that are into class cars.My generation is less mechanically inclined than my Dads generation(62 years old)my son is 18 his generation has less interest than mine.
My age and younger all they see is quick et they don't care if you do it with 300'' small block or 800''s with 3 systems
A good example is IHRA pro stock verses NHRA pro stockers they don't care IHRA is 315''s bigger they just see they go a little quicker.
Sorry if went long this is something that has aggravated me almost my whole life.People don't want a challenge or work for accomplishments they want it easy but when you get it easy what do you have to be proud of?

Have to agree with you Ed. Of course, in todays world you won't ever see a Pontiac GTO Judge tv ad with the kid cruising the local burger stand like they ran for the 1970 model year. That said, how different is the current fan base for the super fast street cars than when guys were building coupes, etc back in the day? Oh almost forgot, 48.
