The Winter/Esslinger, SS/IA, '71 Duster 340 that won the Seattle national event two years running...

That car had such good weight distribution that if they added ballast to run a class lower, they had to add it to the firewall... (back then, there was a 50/50 limit.)

It was a national record holder thanks to a Larry Hollums motor and a Len Schneider transmission, and was a perennial class winner at Pomona in a sea of Cheyy 327s and 350s.

Steve Winter eventually sold it to Steve Hahn and Mile Loge, and it got even faster, but they wanted to go GT racing, so they built a GT car and sold the Duster (sans engine, I believe) to a midwest buyer. As far as I know, it hasn't been heard from since... 10.30s in 1984 in SS/IA... Not competitive now, but that was 25 years ago!

My favorite race car of all time...

Jim,
I haven't seen any reference to Mike Cissell in quite a few years. He was tight with Dan Dvorak and Mark Wilson, they might know the story.

Dan is still at it working hard. Had to sell his car to pay hospital bill as he lost a leg back a couple of years ago. His website is still up .
