Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Larry, one of our research facilities in Europe measured bore distortion on a running engine that ran at 6,000 rpm. SAE Paper 2002-01-0485 has the results of the testing. It makes for an interesting read.

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Thanks Greg, I will read it then I will get Chris to understand it for me.
We wanted to tweak our ring package just a little, so I called Total Seal for the rings. A pleasant surprise was everything was on the shelf and it will be shipped today. I may try a Bob Gliden and build it without the aid of an engine stand. Stan, I always want the car better than 50/50 and rear weight biased enough to have the car go straight in a wheel stand. The iron head engine makes more power than the aluminum heads , but the aluminum heads go A to B much more consistent. |

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
In going through some old information I discovered a torque sequence for the main caps. After following directions I rechecked housing bore and it was good.
Bob Toy finished rewiring the pink car and it looks organized and easy to work on. Still have to scale car and test. |

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
NCAA basketball is over until Thursday. I will be able to see the relationship between the deck plates and the heads as to how round and straight the cylinders are.

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
The plates and the heads are real close, only a few tenths difference.
Better equipment = better results only if the operator is skilled and experienced. Jeff Taylor Performance is such a place. I went there with the liners everywhere, over .002 variation in places, the end result was the cylinders were round and straight and only .001 bigger. I got one more build or of my pistons. I miss a lot from my youth, I’m sure everyone can come up with a punch line, but I miss my eye sight the most. After cleaning and inspection I decided to reuse the main bearings. I caught the light just right and the saw a piece of trash on the bearing that would not wipe clean. The bearing was starting to flake off. That would have been pretty after a few dyno pulls. |

Re: Dumbo The Flying Elephant
Is it a Polymer coating that was flaking? If so why did you re-use it?
