Re: Original hemi dart information
i found a picture online of the yellow Bruce Hawk driven car which i think is one of the "built" by Mancini, not by Hurst Darts. still if that car is still around it's very cool and i think an important "historical" racecar. IIRC this should be the yellow Dart with the strobe over the roof.

Torsion-Bar Eddie,
Hard to find photo. John Bullock's Hemi Dart 'Dell's Devil' Sam Dell Dodge out of Syracuse, New York Question, Was it picked up at Hazel Park, delivered to Sam Dell Dodge, or a Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding car? pc |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Torsion-Bar Eddie,
Thanks for the lead, I found it. Yes, that reprinted article is funny. How anyone could walk into a Dodge or Plymouth dealership in early 1968, and order a Hemi Super/Stocker. NOT. First off, not every dealership got an announcement letter. We had quite a few dealerships in our area. Most of them never even heard of the Super/Stock Hemi Program and/or cars in early 68'. Second off, you had to go through the Regional Office. I'm sure a couple of them fell through the cracks. pc |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Paul,
What car are you reffering to - Dell's devil - John Bullock? I seem to recall reading that a guy who drove a 67 Dodge Hemi S/S for Boch Dodge was supposed to get a new Hemi dart - I will have to look up the guy's name - ring any bells? Mark J |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Yes I heard that the Wilke's have the shell of one of Mancini's Darts. Ron's first Dart was originally owned by Gil Clark. Mopar68 - I got the pics - Thanks!
If I am correct the front suspension issue was a bump steer one and the lower ball joints/steering arms were bent to correct it. I have also heard of a shortage of Danas - remember these were special ordered from dana w/ 4.88 gears - not the off the shelf B-Body axle. Mark J |

Re: Original hemi dart information
I've been lurking for a couple of years and joined just to add one more Dart that I have not seen mentioned.
A homebuilder, Joe Ralph Thompson from Rison Arkansas, ran a red Hemi Dart. I remember there was also a PHR ( I believe) centerspread on it from a Texas race one year as a Pro Stock. I believe Gene Graham was the driver. It was set up at Sox and Martin. Don't know if it was a real one or a clone. I was a teenager and didn't know what a clone was. Saw it at Carlisle and Stuttgart Dragway (Arkansas) a few times and then it vanished. Dwight Southerland might remember this car. Last edited by Charlie A; 09-18-2010 at 01:04 PM. Re: Original hemi dart information
the above picture is very interesting! i cant make out the name on the window but it looks like Ron Mancini? looks too like it has A/MP on the quarter window? i'm guessing that this was the car that was wrecked in the mid-70's since it has the wider solid red stripe. interesting too that it has the tall snorkel style hood scoop replacing the Hemi style so i would guess too that it probably has a tunnel ram as well.
Modified Production ran against Gas? Dave |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Good points made on the Dana stuff. Also keep in mind, these Hurst cars came with the 4 1/2" bolt circle compared to the 4" bolt circle that "production " A bodys came with. They definately were stock length B body diffs, with stock length B body axles. I'm guessing this was to keep the cost down, so they didn't have to build a special length rear end. Instead, they installed those positive offset wheels. I believe this to be true for both, the Dana, & the 8 3/4"s.
So, possibly the shortage issue for the Dana's resulted from the special gearing - 4.88's rather than the diff. assemby as by length. liteweight Daryl |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Mark J,
There are (2) definte Hemi cars from the Syracuse, NY Region. * Ed Miller's SS/B Barracuda "Syracuse Region Plymouth Dealers" * Chuck McJury's SS/B Dart "Cicero Dodge" (Later converted to an automatic). Wasn't completely sure if John Bullock got an original. He was one of the original 65' Dodge Super/Stock owners too. Sam Dell Dodge, Syracuse, New York was big into racing.
