It is with huge regrets that I have to inform our racing community of the passing of "BIG" Jack Sepanek. He passed away last night. Please pass Thoughts and prayers their way.

Sepanek, Sr., age 73, of Moosic, died Saturday evening at the Regional Hospital in Scranton. He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Gail Jones. Wed on May 24, 1957, the couple were married for 54 years. Born the Minooka section of Scranton on April 26, 1938, son of the late Walter (Eddie) and Clare Wzorek Sepanek, Jack was a graduate of the former Moosic High School, Class of 1956, and was a National Guard Veteran of the Vietnam War. For over 25 years, he worked as the Service Manager for Marmo's Pontiac before beginning Sepanek Transmission Service in Moosic. Since he began racing in 1964, together, he, his wife, and eventually his son, led passionate lives for drag racing. A member of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and the Pocono Drag Lodge Legends, Jack's notable career earned him induction into the NHRA Division One Hall of Fame in 2010. Despite his illness, he still managed to finish in 7th place in the Super Stock Eliminator standings at the remarkable age of 72 years young. He was a member of the American Legion Post #604 in Moosic, a classic car enthusiast, enjoyed fishing and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers. Young at heart, he was a loving husband, father and friend, who will forever be remembered as a good person who was always willing to do anything for anyone. He will be dearly missed.He is also survived by his son, Jack Sepanek, Jr., and wife Katie, of Moosic; two sisters, Joanne Lucarelli of Duryea, and Diane Sepanek of Scranton; and several nieces and nephews.His family would like to thank the staffs of both DeVita Dialysis, Old Forge, and Special Care at Regional Hospital, especially the nurses' aids, and doctors, Jeremiah Eagen, Ajay Shetty, David Fitzpatrick, Julio Ramos and Vitaly Geyfman, for all of their kindness and care they've given Jack over the years.Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 8:45AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Queen of the Apostles' Parish, 715 Hawthorne Street in Avoca, to be celebrated by Rev. Phillip J. Sladicka, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Mary of Czestochowa Parish Cemetery, Greenwood.Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's name to the donor's favorite charity.
