Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers
Looks like Randi Lyn Shipp & Brad Burton have the only Pontiac powered Stockers at the AZ Nats. Randi was #19, & Brad was #42, in Q-1.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop Rain Sat. So, they plan to run a couple of rounds of elims, after Pro qualifyting. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop In Q-2 Randi Lyn was #21, & Brad was #24. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Brad survived 3 rounds of elims. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Last edited by oldskool; 02-23-2020 at 09:58 AM. |

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers
Panning thru the Nostalgia section & found this nugget.
I suppose everybody here besides me already knew where to find this info. It's a list of NHRA Nat event results from 1955 thru 2000. Of course, the 1998 & later results are listed on DRC. But, a quick scan thru some of the years revealed some Pontiac powered wins & RU's I was not aware of, as far as I know. Now I'm not familiar with every driver name that ran a Pontiac powered car in all those races. So, there could be some Pontiacs on some of these lists I miss. Also, as we all know, LOTS of guys have raced different brands of cars, during their driving career. So, for some of you guys who were there back when a particular race was run, I need ya'll to point out any Pontiac powered car I might miss, AND any name I list as having been driving a Pontiac, who was actually driving some other brand, at that race. http://www.nhra.net/50th/resultslist.html I'll post this on the Pontiac SS thread, then start going up thru the years & listing all Pontiac wins & RU's I find, listing the Stock cars on this thread & the SS cars on the SS thread. Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers
Pretty sure I've already mentioned this 1st one. Jim Wangers won Stock at the 1960 Nationals.
http://www.nhra.net/50th/results.asp?mYear=1960 https://www.sema.org/sema-news/2010/...liminator-1960 Next win I see is in '66. Arlen Vanke won the Spring Nats, & Bill Abraham was RU. I assume it was an all-Pontiac final, between 2 of the Bill Knafel Tin Indian GTO'S. If this is not correct, somebody please post the correct info. http://www.nhra.net/50th/results.asp?mYear=1966 Bill Abraham was also RU @ the World Finals that year, in another all-Pontiac final, against Jay Hamilton's '58 Pontiac. Abraham was driving the '65 Tin Indian GTO. http://www.classracer.com/classforum...9&postcount=53 Hey ya'll, that ain't bad. There were 4 nat events that year, & there was an all-Pontiac Stock final, at half of 'em ! Jay Hamilton also won the Spring Nats, in '67. http://www.nhra.net/50th/results.asp?mYear=1967 Last edited by oldskool; 02-23-2020 at 08:25 PM. |

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers
I'll break in here with this news flash. Brad Burton just won E-4 in both Stock & SS. Going into the semi-finals. For me, it would be super-cool if he sweeps Stock & SS, with Pontiac power.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop He also won the Stock semi. So, he can pick up another Pontiac nat event win ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop He won ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Last edited by oldskool; 11-14-2021 at 03:40 AM. |

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers
In '93, Jack Larsen is listed as the winner @ the Slick 50 Nats. The only car I show for Jack is a '77 Lemans. But, I have no idea what he was driving when he won that race. Anybody know ?

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers
Don’t know about Jack, but did you notice that Mike McDonald was runner up at Indy (no small feat) and then 2 months later won at Texas that year in his 74 GTO.

Quote:
I had no idea he ran a '74 GTO. Not familiar with the name. Those lists don't reveal what car or class any of the Stockers were running. Only the driver's name. I suppose I should remember the name, since it was posted in this thread. https://classracer.com/classforum/sh...&postcount=119 So, all help in identifying the Pontiac powered cars is appreciated.
