Ok, a frustrating update. Dad had his first cardiac checkup last Friday, and the EKG looked great, according to the doctor. So healthwise, he's coming around just fine, and we're as happy as can be. On the other hand, when they asked the cardiologist if he'd be able to get back on the track this month, he said no. Three more months and then another evaluation!!! Is this normal??? Does anyone have a doctor that knows a thing about drag racing??? Everything looks fine and appears to be back to normal. Should he be seeking a second opinion, or just take three months to relax? He just finished to motor last week in anticipation, and it's ready to rock and roll... Mom about tore the doctor a new a==hole when he said that. She came unglued. Kodak moment.

Mike,

Sorry to hear the news. Unless you want to bring Jim to KC, and go to St. Luke's Wornal, or KU Med. That would be the two I would suggest. I am not sure what Witchita has to offer in Hospitals. St. Luke's would be my first choice all around.

Tell everyone we are thinking about you guys.

Sean

Patience is a virtue.Drag racing isn't everything.Let him take a break and then come back healthier and more relaxed.

Wink Re: Prayers for Jim Voth

Last summer, a month before the Seattle Pinks All Out event, my buddy had a triple bypass. He said he wasn't going to miss the race, so on that weekend, we did all the crewing, maintenence, car prep, what ever was needed. All he did was drive the car after we strapped him in. He got tired very easily, and left early after he was done. I don't think to this day his Dr. knows about it. I'll grant you it wasn't a stick car, so there wasn't as much pull on his chest "zipper", but he weathered the storm and got through it.
His will to race took over his better judgement that weekend and he was lucky nothing happened to adversly affect him. Hes doing just fine nowadays, just as bull headed and crazy as ever, but taking life a little easier than before.
My 2 cents,,,,,,Danny Durham

Thats good, and important....after my bike wreck 2 weeks out of the hospital (I was there over 2) I had a bike I was building up vintage rare, and slow but cool....but 3 skull fractures, and all the other mess I put myself in I was wanting to get out and test. I did, broken ribs still hurting, and all the stupid crap. I still cant believe I did, and well....it was a total and absolute lack of judgment. I was so jumped on adrenaline I actually rode the thing like a beast, my Girlfriend at the time, she kept "egging me" "get back on" , "you love it , its who you are" yada....I guess a P.H.D dosent come with a dose of common sense in her case. (hence the Ex thing) I was lucky getting as tired as I did, and hurting as bad as I did for as long as I did afterward, litteraly 2 weeks, it was good it kept me "honest" with myself for quite sometime, into the winter.

I dono a couple months after a major ticker event dosent sound too bad to me.

My Dads Doc ok'd him and the NHRA agreed but hes only got cancer (that what he says) and well, its not going to cause an "instant" issue.

Second opinions are funny, and easy take if from someone who has too much experience with my son my father, myself.

You can ALWAYS shop for the opinion you want and you WILL find it. But is it the "right" opinion ? There are doctors who know and doctors who dont, if he is well respected and considered "top notch" then Id say Id take what he says as important and get him to explain his reasoning, if he isnt willing , able or has time to....well then a second opinion may be in order not because of his lack of understanding of racing but for his lack of understanding its important for a paitent to understand why he is being cared for in what manner.

I'm trying to decide what type of car I want to build...any suggestions??? That's why I built the 3rd car garage with the new house. Have the space, now I need a car to fill it.

Looking for a partner?

Dad will drive until the day they pry the steering wheel out of his hands.

Dad would like to know what car you and Todd have put together with what combo?

And many thanks to all for your concerns and supports, phone calls and emails. Dad is very much appreciative.
