Jim after David got the car The index on the class was hit at least once and maybe twice if memory serves me. The car got a lot of number one qualifiers. That 650cfm holley 2bbl was reworked by TRC and flowed something like 730cfm, it was almost as quick as a 4bbl on the 292ci engine. The index was likely pretty soft on that class. If a guy was to build a state of the art 283 production engine now and put it in the IHRA SS 2bbl. J/A class I would like to see what it would run. At the time the engine was a pretty trick Gene Fulton piece, I doubt it made a lot of horsepower but it would shift at 10,500rpm with no problem lol.I think now IHRA requires some type of carb. restriction in the 2bbl class. Don,
I was just a teenager at the time and I only raced around the East Texas area. We used to have Stock/Super Stock combo's at the area tracks so I'm sure you never heard of me back then. Most of my old pictures were ruined in a flooding accident. I will look for something good enough to post if I can figure out how to do it on here. Thanks! |

Here are some pics of my brothers SS/Q national record holding 283 c.i. 65 Chevelle 300 Deluxe. This car set the record at Suffolk in April '74 with an elapsed time of 12.16. The next day it broke out in the first round with a run of 12.14! This car would do some monster wheelstands and I remember seeing it go up on the bumper at Miami-Hollywood Speedway Park.
Pictured l-r by the car are my brothers Phil and Paul and Paul's brother in law Pat. Mark Berg I/S 2665 Last edited by icebrrrg; 02-08-2009 at 07:04 PM. Reason: just because |
