Well, my premonition was correct...it took us from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm today to get everything lined up and in it's proper place. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the panels gaps...so happy to have this part behind me finally. Now I can move along with final sanding and painting.

Alright...that's about enough. Put four good coats on it Tuesday morning and I'm tired of looking at it. Time to get this back together and get a motor in it...I'm itching to get back to the track. Think four days is enough time to begin wet sanding and buffing this acrylic urethane?

Sanding and buffing......my least favorite part of refinishing! Shoot for shine and take some dirt nibs out! 4 days should be plenty, make it sparkle. How is the engine coming?

Yes, I am already arm weary just thinking about it. Have not made much progress lately on the engine with nearly all my waking hours devoted to this paint.

Went out yesterday and began wet sanding the hood. Started with 1000 grit and finished with 1500...went pretty well I think. I tried a test section on the hood with the rotory buffer and it went ok, but I'm just not comfortable using it and decided to leave that part to a pro.
![]() ![]() While I was finishing up the hood my partner came in and asked if he could give the buffer a go...told him how I felt about it but to give it a try if he felt ok with it. I moved to the rear of the car and continued to wet sand while he did his thing on the hood. Within a few minutes I heard some moaning up front and knew it was going to be some bad news...sure enough he had burnt up the paint on one side of the hood lol. Now he is mortified and won't even touch the car lol. I assured him I could fix it...when I finish wet sanding I will mask everything off and re-paint the hood in place. Think I will pick up a DA polisher which will be much safer to use in the end.

This has proven to be an exercise from hell lol...I'm closing in on it tho. There are many points I don't like about the job I have done so far, but I'm weary of looking at it so it ends this weekend one way or another. Pieces and parts are going back on the car Sunday...I'll correct my mistakes over the winter months ahead.
Btw, the Porter DA polisher was well worth the money. Anyone can use one of these without worrying about harming the finish...even my partner hehe. I'm even using it with some 3M 1000 grit wet/dry discs to speed the color sanding process. Oh, and the black tail is back as promised. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Got most of it done today...all I like is putting the interior door panels back on and the rear bumper. Bumper bolts were missing until I spotted them in a corner when I arrived back home this evening.
Still working on the Stocker motor so we dropped a 327 bullet in the bay to test. If it pans out the 327 is what it will be sporting at next year's Hot Rod Reunion at Bowling Green next spring. Waiting on a carb fuel line to fire the engine and check for leaks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
