Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Thanks Jason, you're sweet. It was really the car and not me that got the award. I did however get to be in the pictures they took with the car.

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Larry and Patsy,
Thanks bunches for the ride, great reporting as always. Made a similar trip in 2001, Massachusetts to Pomona for the 50th anniversary race(4th of july) up to Woodburn ,OR for the points meet and back home to Mass. Sights were unreal, Mt Rushmore may be my favorite. We went to lots of Nat Parks and it was very easy to park a rig, we did more flying j's than walmarts. no problems. Thanks again

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
All in all we had a wonderful trip. The combo race in South Dakota was a blast along with the good food we enjoyed. The new people we met in Seattle were just terrific. Going out with Mike and Paula in Sonoma and seeing old friends there was lots of fun. In Denver getting better acquainted with Dic & Deb Geary was nice and seeing (and beating) Ronnie West was great. But getting home to the family and dog was even better.

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
Dave, I couldn't agree with you more! I've always wanted to race E-town, Indy, Bowling Green, Madison, plus do the western swing! After seeing those great pictures from Marion, Seattle, Sonoma, and (of course) Denver, I wish someday to do the same thing! Thanks again Larry & Patsy...you two are GREAT PEOPLE!!!

Re: "Live" from the Western Swing
They say never comment on someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Since we just walked 5503 miles enjoying the lifestyle of the touring pro, let me tell you up front "It ain't easy". Every little vibration or noise that the motorhome makes always gives you concern on what could be going wrong. And then you have all the road hazards, just trying to make any tire on your rig go flat. And then you check on the racecar in the trailer 3 times a day to make sure everything is still where it needs to be. The pressure you put on yourself to get to the next race without anything going wrong and if something does go wrong, you are always formulating "Plan B".
My driving did improve over the 5 week span of racing . I believe the touring professional has the advantage of always getting to race on a properly prepared racetrack all the time. And as always in any athletic endevour, there is a certain amount of talent and acquired skill with a passion for winning. I think every touring pro should be sponsored by Target because everyone is taking a shot at that bullseye on their back. Here is the secret on how to beat Dan Fletcher: 1. Have him drive 2700 miles in 3 days. 2. Now that he is totally exhausted both mentally and physically, catch him before he gets dialed in. Larry |
