Mad Malcom Durham raced a nova with a 409 in the mid '60's, even altered the wheelbase if I remember rightly.

PS '67 Nova with a '70 LT1 350.

It was a 1964 Chevelle with the Z-11/427 engine, Jim. Then he changed the trim into a 1965 and altered the wheelbase the following year to use the Rat motor style 427 for match racing. He raced a lot at the long gone Aquasco drag strip in Southern Md. The first time I saw him race was against Ronnie Sox's 1964 Comet and he whipped his butt in a 2 out of 3 match race that Sunday. I had heard he outran Sox the night before at Cecil County. I talked to him a lot before his passing from cancer and he was a great down to earth guy and his kids turned out to be good people also.

YES,
A 69' Nova with a 427 L-88.
Or a 70 1/2' Nova with the 454 LS-6.

D,
Yes, in December 67' Mopar did toy with idea for a Super/Stock 340 Dart for SS/F, for the 68' Winternationals.
9.49 - up wt/hp break.
Not sure what happened to that secret project.
I know the Los Angeles County/Orange County Dodge dealers put alot of effort in the Bill Shrewsberry E/S 340 Dart, for early 68'.

D,
Vic said, Dodge built a proto-type 68' Dodge Dart GTS with a
340, rated at 335HP, for SS/F in 1968.
It was based upon a 68' GTS (#3264 lbs.) with a fiberglass-hood and deck-lid, to come in at #3200 lbs. even. (9.55 wt/hp break)
Not sure on all the details, but Vic said, Super/Stock springs, 4.88 gears, and supposed (28) 4-speeds and (33) automatics, were in-line for
production in California.
Vic said, he'd dig up engine details. It included an Edelbrock aluminum
DP intake and Holley 780 cfm carburetor.
PC

From Vic,
11.5-1 pistons, with a special O-ringed block deck, shot-peened and magna-fluxed rods.
Special bearings. Hardened cranskshaft. .537 lift/ 310 duration camshaft.
Special valve train components.
Machined cylinder heads with dual-valve springs and teflon seals.
Double roller timing chain. Edelbrock DP intake and 780 cfm Holley.
Hooker Competition Headers
Factory suggested HP rating of 335.
Special distributor and ignition.
Trunk-mounted battery
8 3/4 rear w/4.88 gears and S/S leaf springs.

Thanks for the correction, thought it was a nova but then I'm old. They showed up one night at Atco with the car on a flat bed truck and they had to remove the car by hand because the ramps wouldn't hold it. Half the pits helped. He was indeed a nice guy.

Bret,
Only if you mention the Prop size!
Paul

A nice view.
An AMC Marlin (with a 343 HP Typhoon) towing the Amphi-Car to the track on a Bock trailer.

Couple some of the old '60's and '70's car looks and styling with new car engineering, safety, technology, and especially POWER.....then you've got a winner....isn't that what's happening? WJ
