After re-reading GTX JOHN's post where he mentioned seeing the reverse pattern shifter, its unlikely the transmission is computer controlled or electronically shifted. Of the electronic shifted transmissions I seen, you would need to use a forward pattern, steering paddle or button shifter.

I also noticed a shift light mounted high and right in drivers line of sight almost half way up windshield... but no tach unless in stock dash position not on top of dash like most of use prefer. Looked hand shifted to me.... however can't new cars with computer controlled transmissions be electronic shift as late model camaro and firebird? Thought they all were?

Lol....well , I was wondering the same thing Ed, and Jerry....
Youre spot on Jerry , and Ed youre right to wonder, a new run of controllers just hit (I got serial #1 of the new series not 2 weeks ago ![]() We can shift manually if we have to, but I dont even have a tach in the car. Soo..........Id have to put one in for the driver to use if manually shifting was what we end up with...... (The car will have a tach, but I havent mounted the Display panel yet.....and we can run without it , there are now secondary analog gauges for imporant items on the car temporarily until they are all integrated and logged....) But Im glad yall figgered it out........ The "prototype" of the BS3 Hemi setup used an external crank sensor as the signals put out arent straight forward if you dont understand them and well....it was Im certain a programming/time issue, everyone has been breathing down the necks of the Meaneys for the BS3 for this engine. We were about 2 days off ordering one when we came up with our system, and eventually sponsor....but I have been DYING to know if they got it all squared out. I hope they did, I think it will be a pretty good system for these engines and I know there are DP teams eager for more options than the AEM or Fast....options are always good, breeds competition ![]() |

I'm going to think out loud here... Racing a bracket truck with an electronically contolled transmission and a programable TCM for the past 5 years, makes me think the problems Jeg's had, sound more of an electronic issue than a mechanical one. ??? If the shift point was set too high, the shift wouldn't be completed in time before the engine hit the rev limiter. If the shift point was set too low, the transmission would upshift prematurely. Been there, done that. It would be interesting to see what combo Jeggie is running. |

Can be, most so far in the DP are doing a 1-2 electronic , manual thrid, maybe thats why the light, only needed for third shift and thats going to be part seat of the pants anyway.
But its a Protrans like most others are using too....the electronic valve body I think with the 1-2 reverse is pretty common (but when I say common I am talking about what is being done on the DP cars) I know most are. Were running full electronic, the motors sweet spot is the sweet spot, so with 4 potential drivers over the season it seemed smart to make it a little "foolproof" 2 of the drivers (me and the old man qualify in the fool department) But its nice throw 12 volts to both soelnoids and Ive got full manual control, Im doing that with a keyed switch (so it dosent accidently get tripped) so we can change up. Im guessing electronic 1-2 and manual 3rd, that would make sense with not tach, he sure isnt using the factory tach....not possible on these, and the location for a race car is lame. bad bad location. Yeah but, hes gonna be burning in 2nd and the TA system has the "burnout" mode. Dono if hes using that or something else, but dosent seem like in 2nd that would be a problem with the limiter. Hes running a 727 Protrans, Id PAY to know what ratios and converter though.

Didnt I send you all the data on his motor and the system ? Here is a pic around Oct 27th.....I am 99% sure the motor is his (Couglins) for a couple of reasons, 1 is the time coincides with when the motor wasnt at Holts or elsewhere, and second well....thats "Secret Squirrel" Info.... ![]() It should be noted NOONE told me whos motor this was, SPECIFICALLY the person who had these shots would NOT tell ANYONE, so....I dont want to put ANYONES nuts in a vise, noone even alluded to whos it was, but well there are only a few out there, and then even less, didnt take a genius to come to the conclusion of whos it was when 20 of the other cars delivered knew it want theirs, it only left about 4 plausible people. BUT Sometimes NOT saying is as good as saying too... Thats why I want to know really bad if they got past this "prototype" stage, and thats what this pic is of , an initial stage, just like our DP manifold on the Orange SRT8....gotta start somewhere.... I would bet cash its his. But here is an interesting bit of "spy" info on the setup seen in the pic on the motor."stock Chrysler cam sync sensor, but modified the cam wheel so that it has a rising edge signal for every two crank revs" Ill send you over all the other pics of his motor and data I have on it..... Guess doing work for John McCains CIA Front the Freedom Project PAC Paid dividends in the racing world whoda thunk ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Chris "drooze" Wertman; 02-05-2010 at 01:43 AM.
