Re: Best Pontiac Powered Super Stockers
Well ya'll, I'll have to tell on myself now. I don't know if I can blame old age, or just lack of computer skills.
But, I was almost thru with 2010 race results, when I had to take a break. So, I THOUGHT I hit minimize. But, when I came back, to continue, that tab was gone. I suppose I accidentally hit the X, instead of the minimize. Anybody else ever do that ? Anyhow, because of this, from now on, I'll post a very small amount, then edit and add a little more, and so on, til the post is complete. So, when ya'll see a very short post, with only a very few results, just know that the post is not complete, and I'll be adding more to it. 2010 At the Winter Nats, looks like Art Peterson had the only Pontiac powered car on the SS list. It's the only '69 GTO I know of that has been in either Stock or SS competition, this century. If ya'll know of others, please post that info. Back in the day, there were lots of '69 GTO's in competition, especially Judge models, sponsored by Pontiac dealers. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop Looks like Joel Larkin had the only Pontiac on the SS list at the AZ Nats. I can remember lots of races we entered where we had the only Pontiacs. That was just part of it, for us. Just made winning a little better. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop At the Cajun Sports Nats, J.B. Clegg showed up with a stick Bird. I suppose that was the 1st year that '74 had run a stick. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop At the 4-Wide Nats, Peter was #2 @ - 1.022. Due to info just posted, I assume the engine was an iron head 428. Sal P. was #46 @ -.699. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop Sal made it to round 4, where he left a tick too quick. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop Peter made it to round 5, where he got treed. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop At the Spring Vegas race, Don Kennedy was #22 @ -.781. Joel & Ryan were on the lower half of the list. John Angeles was also on the list, driving a '69 Bird. For those who may not know, John co-wrote a couple of books on Pontiac performance & racing. His '69 RAIV Bird was said to be the 1st reg SS Pontiac 400 powered car to dip below 10-flat. His daughter, Keri, was driving on that occasion. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop Ryan made it to the semi, but cut a bad light. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop At the Midwest Nats, Greg Meyer was #7 @ -.899. Lynn McCarty was #55. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop At Fontana, Keri was #20 @ -.571. Ryan & Joel were on the list. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop At Topeka, Carroll was #16 @ -.800. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop Last edited by oldskool; 01-17-2020 at 03:49 AM. |

I assume that most Pontiac guys who have raced very long at all, have experienced that. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop At the Mile-High Nats, Carroll was #3 @ - 1.131. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop At the Lucas Oil Nats, Greg Meyer was #12 @ -.721. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop At the O'Reilly Nats, Stacy McCarty was #20 @ -.753. Re: Best Pontiac Powered Super Stockers
Question:
Below are some pics we took at the Cajun Nats, back around 1978. There was a white SS/K T/A there, wearing "For Sale" signs. So, does anybody know who owned this car, who bought it, and any of the rest of it's history ? 41 is a div 4 number. Anybody know if John Clegg had anything to do with this car ? OR ??? At Pomona, Keri was #33 @ -.641. Ryan & Art were also on the list. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At the Gators, Peter qualified slow, but won the race ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At Belle Rose, J. B. dipped into the 9's, with his stick Bird ! Was this the 1st reg SS 455 powered Pontiac in the 9's ? If not, what car was, & when ? https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At the Spring Vegas race, Don K. was #4 @ -.845. I suppose Robert Cruzen had the 428 in his Cobalt at this race. He was #6 @ -.826. Keri & Art were also on the list. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At Fontana, Don K. was #9 @ -.810. Carroll was #14. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At Englishtown, Sal P. was #18 @ -.769. Re: Best Pontiac Powered Super Stockers
2011 contd.
At Bristol, Peter lost to a .002 light. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At Norwalk, Stacy McCarty was #6 @ -.877. Greg Meyer was #24 @ -.699. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At the Route 66 Nats, Stacy was #10 @ -.872. Greg was #25 @ -.745. Casey McCarty was #49. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At Sonoma, Keri's 9.84 was only good enuff for #21 on the Q-list. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At the Northern Sports Nats, Bill Rink was #5 @ -.986. Johnny Duncan was #66. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At the Auto-Plus Nats, Peter was #19 @ -.917. Sal P. was #45. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop Peter got RU. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At the AZ Nats, Don K. was #4 @ -.866. Peter was #10 @ -.720. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop Peter had mechanical problems & had to settle for RU. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At the Fall Vegas Race, Don K. was #8 @ - 1.031. Robert C. was #9 @ - 1.029. Ryan, Art, Keri, & Peter were lower on the list. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop And Peter won another one ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop At the Pomona Finals, Peter was #16 @ -.845. Robert C. was #20 @ -.820. Ryan was #29 @ -.766. Art & Keri were also on the list. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop So, unless I missed somebody, there were 8 reg SS Pontiacs entered in Nat events that season. They were driven by Keri Angeles Pari, Art Peterson, Sal Piacentini, Carroll Warling, Ryan Schloe, Joel Larkin, Bill Rink, & J.B. Clegg. There were 7 Pontiac powered GT cars that were driven by: Johnny Duncan, Peter Biondo, Don Kennedy, Greg Meyer, Stacy McCarty, Casey McCarty, & Robert Cruzen. I may have missed a car or 2. I know that in years just prior to this, John Angeles & Monte Howard were on some nat event Q-lists, as was Vic Santos. I'll look back over recent years, & get names of some I left our here, then edit & include them. I realize there may be some Pontiac powered SS racers that didn't get any or very much mention, because I had only nat event results. But, beginning for the 2012 season, DRC has results of div races also. And again, if ya'll know of Pontiac SS cars that did good at races I don't mention, please post that info. Re: Best Pontiac Powered Super Stockers
2012
At Pomona, Ryan Schole was #26 @ -.718. Peter was #38 @ -.621. Art was #48 @ -.514. Joel was #52. Keri was #55. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Peter broke, in round 6, & had to settle for a 3rd place finish. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the AZ Nats, Peter was #17 @ -.764. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Peter got treed in the semi & had to settle for another 3rd place finish. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop OK, since we'll now have results from the Lucas Oil Series div races, I'll try to list them with there div number, followed by a dash, followed by the season sequence number. So, this race will be called the LOS 7-1 race, since it is in div 7 & is the 1st LOS race of the season. In case of rainouts, sometimes the sequence numbers may not be in the correct order. This shorter race ID will require less time & space. So @ LOS 7-1, Don K. was #3 @ -.925. Ryan was #28 @ -.605. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 7-2, Don K. was #2 @ -.949. Ryan was #32 @ -.608. Robert was #43, & Art was #45. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 4-1, J.B. was #22 @ -.682. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the Cajun Sports Nats, J.B. was #61 @ -.636. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 7-3, Robert was #2 @ - 1.001. Don K. was #6 @ -.905. Leo Glasbrenner was #14 @ -.826. Don't know if Leo had Pontiac power at that time, or not. Who knows ? Ryan was #34 @ -.600. Art was #61. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Don K. won that race ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the Spring Vegas race, Don K. was #3 @ -.947. Ryan was #29 @ -.697. Art was #54. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the 4-wide Nats, Peter was #63. It seems that for some races, Peter uses the strategy of his rival, Dan Fletcher, by purposely qualifying low. I know this is a Pontiac thread, But since I've been lookin up race results, Dan Fletcher is the name that has popped up, most often, in the later rounds of races. I assume he has an awesome list of racing accomplishments. I'm sure that everybody who has kept up with Stock/SS racing knows about Dan. But, I'm just getting a look at some of what he did. So, at some point, I'll probably do some research & get all the info on his racing career. But, that's for another time, & perhaps another thread. This thread is for Pontiac powered SS cars. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Gonna start skipping a lot of races, unless there is a Pontiac that qualifies well, or one that makes it to at least the semi. @ LOS 3-1, Bill Rink was #6 @ -.980. Stacy was #12 @ -.955. Monte was #42 @ -.800. Greg was #44 @ -.793. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 5-1, Robert was #5 @ -.782. Bill was #12 @ -.668. Carroll was #14 @ -.651. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Robert was beaten by his son, in the semi. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 3-2, Greg was #39 @ -.724. Johnny Duncan was #66. But the reason I'm including this Q-list is because of the next 2 cars. The 1st is a 1970 GTO, driven by Bill Eadelis. How long has it been since ya'll saw a '70 GTO SS car, before this one ? The other car is what I think is an SD455 powered '73 auto trans SS Bird, driven by Russ Abrams. I know that Bob Michael & Don K. ran one. Who has run one, in this century ? Maybe there is one, or some, that I don't know about. Those SD455 parts are so rare & expensive now, it's not likely that anybody else will try to build a SD455 powered SS car, in the future. Don't know if any of the GT guys will run one in the future, or not. I suppose that for many guys with enuff money to do this, a rare expensive set of head cores is not a problem. So, maybe we WILL continue to see a few SD455 headed engines on the track. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 1-2, Vic Santos was#12 @ -.851. Don K. was #14 @ -.822. Sal P. was #61. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop Well, that gets us thru May of 2012. Again, if any of ya'll know of Pontiac wins at other races during the season, please post that info. Last edited by oldskool; 01-17-2020 at 08:02 PM. |

Don K. was #5 @ -.930. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the Big O Tires Nats, Don K. was #8 @ -.958. Robert was #10 @ -.937. Other Pontiacs on the list were Ryan Schloe #54, J.B. #60, Keri #66, & Art #76. Leo Glasbrenner was on the list. But, his car was listed as having a 350 engine. Since he's raced Pontiac powered cars, I'd assumed that his 4th gen Bird GT car had Pontiac power. But, now I'm more inclined to believe that the 350 mentioned was probably a Chevy 350, that was in the car when he bought it. But, that is mere speculation on my part. If anybody here knows for sure what brand of 350 was in his GT car, at this race, please post that info. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop @ LOS 7-6, Don K. was #5 @ -.974. Robert was #8 @ -.928. Ryan was #47, Keri #48, & J.B. #50. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the Pomona Finals, Robert was #9 @ -.888. Ryan was #35 @ -.612. Keri was #37 @ -.597.Joel was #48 @ -.472. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop That wraps up 2012, with what I found. Looks like Don K. raced from coast to coast that year. At the Winter Nats, Robert was #3 @ -.959. Leo was #28 @ -.631. He'd moved up several classes, so I assume he'd swapped over to Pontiac power. Joel, Art, & Keri were also on the list. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop At the AZ Nats, Robert was #4 @ -.935. Don K. was #5 @ .928. @ LOS 3-3, Bill Rink was #15 @ -.914. Greg Meyer was #26 @ -.825. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop @ LOS 7-4, Leo was #2 @ -.773. Robert Cruzen was #4 @ -.669. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop Leo got RU. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop @ LOS 1-3, Vic Santos was #6 @ -.892, in a '78 Bird, running GT/IA. I was only familiar with his 3rd gen Bird GT car. So, who knows what other Pontiacs Vic has raced ? https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop Vic went a tick too quick, in the semi. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop @ LOS 5-3, Carroll was #1 @ -.978. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop At the New England Nats, Vic Santos was #3 @ - 1.024. Peter was #26 @ -.646. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop @ LOS 3-4, Bill Rink was #10 @ -.860. Greg Meyer was #15 @ -.776. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop At the Mile-High Nats, Carroll was #3 @ -.926, in GT/MA. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop @ LOS 1-4, Vic Santos was #3 @ -.842. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop At the Lucas Oil Nats, Greg Meyer was #11 @ -.753. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop Greg had to settle for 3rd place at this race, because his semifinal opponent cut a perfect .000 light. And check this out. That guy had cut a .001 light the previous round, then cut a .005 light, to win the final. Now that was an impressive 3-round string of lights ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop @ LOS 5-5, Robert Cruzen was #4 @ -.791. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop Robert was RU at this race. He was beat by the awesome Dan Fletcher. Check out some of Dan's lights, .005, .010, .012, .017, .020 ! He keeps showin up at all the big races, plus many of the div races, from coast to coast. He either had lots of frequent flyer miles, or flew on private jets. Don't think a guy could make that many races, traveling by land. He'd stay wore out all the time. And he ran Stock & SS. So, I assume that others got the cars to the tracks, & he just flew in, to do the driving. If he traveled by land to all those races, he's almost super-human, IMO. Maybe some here can give us more insight. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop @ LOS 5-6, Greg Meyer was #12 @ -.784. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop @ LOS 1-7, Vic Santos was #9 @ -.956. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop At the Northern Sports Nats, Bill Rink was #23 @ -.891, in a 99 car field. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2013#indextop @ LOS 7-6, Carroll was #1 @ - 1.033. And, I just noticed a pic of the car from 2002. It has Santos & Ribeiro on the side, & Dean Ribeiro on the window. I suppose that means that Dean drove the car for a while. I've seen his name on several of the DRC lists. I knew Dave raced Pontiacs. Just never made the connection between Dean & Vic. So, after I get caught up thru 2019, I'll go back & see if I can find some results for the car, when Dean was driving. Last edited by oldskool; 01-18-2020 at 08:47 PM. |
