A teenager a stout small block and a Vega street car you either had some driving skills or probably ended up dead. What a horrible street car but man what a blast.

I still think a chassis Vega on the ground dragging big rubber is a great looking drag car.

I sold it to buy my dream ride 1953 F100 and been driving fords ever since also tuned many of the local hot rods and it was many years later before I wrenched on a fox body street car that would’ve out ran it but since then I have worked on plenty that would’ve. But I still think the Don Hardy race cars inc. stickers that came with the kit and took up almost the whole bottom of the rear side windows and big collectors that dragged on every bump sure was cool.

I apologize for the high jack. I know from experience that the wipers on a 55 Chevy will lay out on the hood at around 120 MPH.

mid 3rd gear... wipers raised off windshield and then into fourth.... then they slowly swept all the way across to other side of windshield...
then when slowed down... they swept back across... floating off windshield and then back on the windshield...
not sure how many MPH it ran but mathematically..... potential to go way too fast in a vega..
It is a MIRACLE that I got to grow up with my Dad alive.. he still is and still has that Vega too....

Also the rear hatch would not close without slamming it. I also had constant front end alignment issues, The front end would spread apart because I had made the rad support removable. Had to add a extra brace.

These V8 Vegas were assembled by Div 1 champ, Joe DeLorenzo in New Haven for Bob Johnson.
They were brand new cars with a warrantee. The std. engine was the 1970 LT1, also new..
The Don Hardy kit was used in the assembly

Very fast little cars as you can imagine....

There's more on the 'net, I'm sure.
