These cars are in fact a small tire radial car....Just a 30x9 instead of 28. I see some of the class were quicker than Welch's, all increments until the 660, then his car really started moving.

The mph that car is running is a monster number for that class which represents a lot of horsepower……..hmmm! That ‘nose down’ attitude’ for that car keeps frontal air from getting up in the engine compartment which would help it’s mph number a little bit. That car’s ‘nose down’ effect is similar to the optional front air dam (with rear spoiler) available on the ‘67 - ‘69 Camaros which also kept frontal air from doing the same thing.

I understand the drag radial group checks the heat on the u-joints after every run and replaces every three or four runs, evidently the severe chassis separation is causing drive shaft angles to be out enough to warrant this.

He did get disqualified @ Indy 2018 after he ran the first 7 second run, his DQ had to do with adjustable lower rear control arms which weren't allowed, the rod ends and lock nuts were welded, and had competed @ several earlier NHRA events. Welch's car spends lots of time at Mike Moran's shop in Michigan.
