I'm sorry, but the elite country club "This is OUR event!" outrage sounds disingenuous. Where was everyone when you had an event dedicated solely to Stock and Super Stock, with everything you ever asked for?

I agree with Michael When the S/SS event was at National Trail I didn't hear anyone complaining. I don't see what all the fuss is about It's a 1 time deal just like the X275 in Epping its not like its gonna happen at all Nat events.

The joke is on these 8 bracket racers, really. How can they possibly appreciate the glory that is a NHRA national event without having experienced all of the personal sacrifice required by all other competitors to get there?

Seems like 10 or so years ago they started offering a Wally to winners of a bracket race. I never thought that was right and also think it moved us down a notch.

Pete, I read the same shyt on here last year when the Index Classes got to run at the Divisionals. We didn't have to pay $180 or whatever Stk/SSTK has to pay for the entry. I paid $60 and the payout was based on entries. Heck, Maple Grove gave us great parking which I declined since I was also driving your Stocker.

So now we have these fabulous racers on here upset that 8 Pro ET cars were invited to race. Did they complain last year when Street ET and 11.50 Index did the same thing? How about the Bracket Motorcycles that will also be running this weekend? Maybe they even know about them yet......

Or the 25 Jr. Dragsters that will also be taking their valuable track time.....

E-Town is not the only track doing this. NHRA started this a few years ago. I don't know how many tracks are participating in this, I could find out, but it really doesn't matter.

What the Stockers should be complaining about is the quota for this race, and the fact that Shootout Cars that don't qualify get inserted into the class. So, they basically buy their way into the program......... What if a Comp racer doesn't qualify, what do they get to do? WATCH!!!!!!!!

Not that that will happen anymore, that class is just about dead.

I said a month or so I was leaving this site, and after this I will be gone. The post will probably be removed anyway........

Wow Lenny under what rock have you been living under, running s/st and s/c is bracket racing! The bracket of 10.90 and 8.90. Bracket racers are the backbone of drag racing if it wasn't for them drag racing would have gone away a long time ago. NHRA remove the Modified eliminator class when they started demanding better purses and better parking spots, boom they're gone replace by Joe Lunch box super Gas and s/c and s/st to allow the little guy to come racing.I love stock, super stock and competition eliminator. I enjoyed all the super class until they went the throttle timers and all those million dollars worth of cubes to race for no money.Bracket racers sacrifice work, sleep, money, time with their families just like S. S/S so please you should think before stating something totally off the mark.Sorry Pete for highjacking yor post. CR

Don't you think this is about as contradicting as you can get. Us fabulous racers complaining about some pro et cars instead we should be complaining about quotas. Don't you think one is a direct correlation with the other?

Back in the day there was bracket racing and "class" racing, whether it was Stk, SS, or Comp. I used to go to the National events to watch all of the cars run. I would buy a general admission ticket for Fri and Sat, so I could wander the pits and take in all the behind-the-scenes stuff. On Sunday I would have a reserved seat so I didn't miss any of the on-track action. All I wanted was to be able to race at the BIG events. After much spectating, I learned that there is way too much potential work involved in running "Class". Possible teardowns, parts availability, being "out-dollared" by someone else that could buy the latest trick-of-the week.........
Finally in the 80s SG started. How fun, now I could go to Nationals and Divisionals. Well, not so much fun. Waiting in the staging lanes for 5+ hours while the pro cars oiled the track so often that their two sessions became one big session. I was gone from racing for about 13 years. Wow, what a difference, scheduled run sessions so you don't have to wait for hours in the lanes. No more sending in a master list for any National event you might want to race before the season starts. You can enter based on your level of participation from the previous year. Sounds fair to me. We all know how the system works, use it to your advantage. Go to the Divisional races and so you can get the preferred entry dates for the nationals. This isn't a sport where everyone gets a trophy for showing up. Which is why most of us like drag racing.
If you look at "Bracket" racing (Including the Super Classes) from NHRA's point of view, what a great value. We can get more cars, and not have to provide as much supervision. No teardowns, fuel checks, more relaxed rules due to no listing for any possible combination out there. From a labor perspective, this is a great thing.
Racers, no matter the class, are a fickled group. A lot of people talk about wanting change but you can't get 10 racers to agree on most anything. Whether it's quotas, rules limits, speed limits for the Super classes, fuel choices, starting times. It's a never ending game. Change must be good for the masses, not just a certain group in the mass. Come up with something that helps the majority and change will come (never as fast as we would like). Just complain and everyone tires of listening. Become part of the solution and not the problem. The squeaky wheel doesn't always get the grease, some times it gets replaced.

I thought my sarcasm would be obvious. I was wrong, and for that I apologize.

I agree that those Wallys are dumb, but disagree that it moved anything else down a notch. It just created a new bottom rung on the ladder.

It's all about your own perspective. Sure, a lot of people now have Wallys that look like a divisional Wally from a distance. I have a bracket race Wally and a divisional Wally. The bracket Wally means no more to me than the many other trophies with a plastic car on top. The divisional Wally is special. The division championship Wally is even more special.

Don't let your own feelings and memories be tainted by what someone else has been able to obtain.
