Too Many? This depends if you want more people to enter and pay entry or more class type heads up racing. NHRA likes to make everyone feel welcome.(pay more entry money) This leads to more classes so any minor variation in Motor, Body style , Trans can race in the bracket format in their own class. . More entry money at points meets, overhead of event problem solved. No need to advertise to get spectators, Entry pays the way for the whole event.
Fewer classes results in frustrations for racers. Basic problems of NHRA factoring, rule structures make some winners and some always losers. Money spent to win then becomes a complaint used to cover poor choices or lack of money or skills to compete. If HP/lb were continued in S and SS classes and only 30 or 50 classes many could get tired of being always beaten by a " more bogus" hp rated car and stop paying ENTRY money to bracket events. This would be beause more heads up runs at meets. NHRA would lose entry money and they are comfortable with the current way of covering costs. Modified method should become the way of the future but many haven't been affected yet by hp enough to make the move and their chance to race in Bracket mode is still available to them at every Points meet. Probably too many Mod classes in SS now too. |

way to many classes, fans like heads up racing.
What Dick said above though is spot on, money has to come from somewhere, from the racer in a bracket format or the fan in a heads up format. I happen to like the heads up format.....I want to see how my "talent" stacks up against the best. not everybody feels the same though |
