John, you 've got a get outta jail free card to play. ...the '07 was available both ways,2.4 L engine code ED3 was dual VVT , 2.4 L engine code EDO, was not ......We only sold Jeeps [until Chrysler terminated us last June], but we had to get all the training on the complete product line , so we could service them for anyone who happened to wander in while still under warrenty. .............

You are right about Pennzoil and Quaker State being the same company, along with Slick 50 they are now owned by Shell. Your sludging issue years ago was probably when they were both parrafin based Pennsylvania oils. They were famous for that. (Caker State, LOL) However I am told that with modern oils, the base stock doesn't matter as much, it's the additive package that makes the oil.

A family friend was a Pennzoil engineer until they turned out the last light in PA. He believes in cheap oil and frequent changes. He says the extended intervals are the car manufacturer's idea and not the oil companies. He says the dirt is still in there and the oil is engineered to keep it suspended. I believe that but I have been using Mobil 1. Every 7500 miles for 11 years now. I would have to change my oil every 5-6 weeks if I use a 3000 mile interval.

Your brother in law's sludging problem raises a few questions but hopefully he gets that worked out.

QUOTE=63corvette;180982]Pennzoil and Quaker State is the same oil and same company and both have sludge issues.
Its the base stock they use according to a good friend who is a oil sales rep.
I had sludge issues with it years ago and stopped using it.
My brother in law had oil pressure issues with his 05 Chevy PU after using Pennzoil in his 60,000 mile vehicle. Upon pulling the pan it had an inch or more of sludge and restricting the oil pickup. Changed the oil pickup and cleaned the pan. Oil Pressure Problem Solved.
He is now using Valvoline and changing it at 1,000 mile intervals to try and clean up the rest of the oiling system.
My 2 Cents[/QUOTE]

I put over 120,000 miles on a Prius last year. We run 5-30 or 10-30 Mobile 1 Extended Life Synth. We have a fleet of these.
