Default New Classification

How do I go about getting a 1984 Dodge Rampage classified for DF/S? Any help would greatly appreciated.

This might help you a little. I cannot tell you why it was not listed in the guide in 1982-1984 model years. MFG by Dodge as a FWD truck instead of a car. As was the 1 year it was also sold rebadged by Plymouth as a Scamp in 1983 model yr. only. (The general Mfg. production runs and sales in all 3 years, and all 4 editions were all well over sales of 500 units each). Call Pat Cvengros at NHRA about why and an indiv. process. (It says the OEM may apply). I cannot also say whether the C.S. 45 had anything to do with the decision or not (they sold, but not as well as many other cars of the era, and certainly not anything like the next Dodge truck in line).

They looked great in the Direct Connection colors and someone had a pair of them (Dick Landy Perhaps??? Or it may have been C.S.(s) people). I remember seeing them racing exhibition side-by-side passes I think at O.C.I.R. and possibly at Pomona circa 1983-84.

Unless of course that particular Rampage is one of the 1984 models with possibly a Chrome Stamped Steel Valve Cover (maybe a Direct Connection Sticker across the top of the windshield), that was sent to a certain 3rd party builder (known by the initials C.S., and was commonly known as 1 of the very limited run of 1984 model year "The Direct Connection Rampage's," as there was only 45 of those, so just shy of the required 50 total produced as required for a "Special Run" to be accepted, and those 45 specially massaged Rampage(s) were a special run (not actually a recognized as a true Dodge model according to the Rampage Wikipedia page). And those were customized (with a ton of Direct Connection Parts and C.S. customized beyond that as a Street Warrior, and then sold only at a few select & special dealerships in Southern California only. Those 45 special S.C. massaged 1984 Rampage units were not even released to the dealers for sale until they were finished in 1986 (2 years after Chrysler produced the last model year of The Dodge Rampage and killed the specific model after 1984).

If it isn't, good luck to you on your quest. If it is, you have a very special edition (Just 1/45), and I hope it is in great shape as it is a pc. of Mopar history and Carrol Shelby made magic happen. (They loved their lil' parts running shop truck back then).

Either way I would enjoy seeing some pics of the car if you wouldn't mind, as you have my curiosity up a bit. 84 HP or 99HP? Carb or EFI? Turbo Perchance on it now? Intercooled? I once rode in 1 (Jet Gloss Black), that had been turned into a very expensive RWD Conversion Blown 413 C.I. Big Block sticking out of the hood, shortened Dana 60, and it was almost all tire in the rear, the bed was taken almost all up by the rear tubs.

The guy totaled it within months of completion on the street. He hit a light post near the outer Traffic Circle in Long Beach, CA. Dang near killed a passenger riding w/ him. I did not ride far with him (around the block), he was nuts and drove like Starsky & Hutch.

96hp (NHRA Factored to 102)
Sedan 4 Dr Rampage 22.99

This shows up on classracerinfo.com under Horizon, with DF/S as its natural class with a weight of 2244lbs.

Pretty sure the Dodge Rampage was the little 2 door Ranchero/El Camino style of car pickup truck.

When you see that faster rocket leave in the rear view mirror life is in slow motion, then as it gains steam about half track it is like a new race has begun Mike. It is a pure blast the last 100' or so. Decision making time is sometimes down to micro seconds. I can feel and see good lights at the tree, top end usually I need to see that glowing win light in one lane or the other to know who won since the paint on the ground (the stripe is wider than the light beam), as they blow by 50 or more mph faster.

It is a real test of patience though and you must as Luke B.says "Fully Embrace The Slow" to have fun with it!

Qualifying and time trials can be a bore so, hammering the tree and experimental work there adds the element necessary to get through that since they are usually turning off up the hill when I finally reach the stripe. Lol.

Weather is always the enemy to battle more than the car/driver in the other lane.

I pulled up the 84' Dodge file and it (the Rampage was not in the list.) Glad you found it in the classracer listing. I did not look at the 82, and 83 files though or there. Smaller and a lot like the El Camino, actually had a published slightly bigger advertised payload and leaf springs in the rear unlike the rest of the other K cars Chrysler put out of the Era.

That 1 will not fit in DF/S with a Tlll Turbo under the hood.

Gary, I know the feeling (somewhat) Back in the '80's I had a super street car that I would bracket race at Riverside raceway. Not sure what the bracket was called but the door cars and dragsters would run together. Now I was set up to run 10.90 at about 124mph and I can remember my first race against a dragster. After leaving the line I was looking for them and not be able to see such a short car very well until the lights where it went by me in a blurr pulled the chute and went back behind me again in a blurr. What just happened? LOL
