I'm looking for a part number or application info for a pitman arm that allows me to use a S10 manual steering box in a 1971 Camaro Stocker. The shaft is larger on the Camaro power steering box than the S10 box, so I can't just swap that arm over, and the S10 box has no arm on it so I don't know if a factory S10 one would work. I'd prefer to use the good S10 box that I have rather than buying a new Flaming River etc. box, so hopefully someone here on ClassRacer can help out. Thanks in advance!

Jeff... What is the Centre-Centre measurement of your Idler Arm? Also what is the Spline diameter of the S10 Box that you have? and Sector Shaft Diameter? Maurice.

Hi Maurice, the center to center length of the pitman arm off the original PS box is 6 3/4" and it is straight with no offset. It has a tapered hole (0.545-0.625") for connection to a ball joint on the centerlink. Part number on the original PS arm is 3964881 for reference, but as I originally noted the shaft diameter on this box is bigger than the S10 box so it is not interchangable.
I just noticed that you asked the length of the idler arm and not the pitman, I will check that tomorrow. The sector shaft is 1 1/8" at the seal and the OD at the splines is 1.110", with the threaded end of the shaft 7/8" diameter. |

FED 387, the one I have is the 3 bolt cover version and the spline is too small to use the Camaro PS arm. Is it worth going any further with it or do I need to find a 4 bolt one or go aftermarket?
Maurice, the idler arm is 6" center to center. |

You need a box with the 4 bolt cover. 3 bolt cover fits early Camaro.

I guess I'm late to the party but on my 3rd gen Camaro I used my Camaro pitman arm on my S10 box.
