But, what if the loser was also illegal but drove past the scales/fuel check after the loss? Does that car go through tech after being re-instated? Who knows what they may have changed after the loss just in case...........

My understanding is if you go past scales your out. I guess the answer would be to never bypass scale until winner is verified legal. If both are illegal both are out

Once upon a time a million years ago, I was at a National Event and after losing the round the NHRA Techs weighed and fuel checked the winner so I drove away. They also did a quick spot check on him and found some loose ballast in the car. A Tech Inspector came and got me and told me to go back to the scales "NOW!".
