[quote=Dwight Southerland;445070]Wow. I never would have guessed that high. I said 400, figuring those 400 (pick whichever ones) would be the most used in the Guide (LT-1, LS-1, old 428, 440/Hemi, 396/375, etc) as opposed to the ones, like many of the cars I raced were the only one of their kind in the country.

A lot of good ideas have been posted, some better than others, but all impressive if for nothing more than the thought process used to define.
The ones I most agree with, are the ones that keep it simple and use mostly common sense to address the issue at hand. What is wrong with just placing the New Cars in a Class by themselves?? Probably because NHRA has an agenda that wants to replace the old cars with the new.......? You think? Why? Because the Factories don't make new 69 Camaros, 68 Road Runners or 67 Fairlanes, and you can't buy them down at "Wide Track Town Motor Company"! I am sure that most everybody realizes that, just making my point. New Cars are the Future with NHRA, and to get the Corporate monies, you have to play the game. I would like to see something done that is a quick and easy fix, most New Car people won't agree with me, as they have bought in to the same mind set as NHRA. Hey this is a Money Deal.....You know the saying...".Hey it ain't personal Sonny.....its just business"!! Try to remember the "3 biggest lies" joke and just add the New Car Politicians statements to the list. Funny, I don't think they race old cars anymore....I might be wrong..... I own both a New Car (2010 Mustang that myself and Kirk Morgan built ourselves from scratch) and an Old Car (67 Fairlane 390 combo slowly going together), so we are not biased one way or the other. Some of the solutions that were posted seemed a little complicated for me. Kind of like Common Core Math equations!! Can't imagine what NHRA thought. Something simple is the answer along with common sense. Only problem is that with the turn outs at INDY for Old Cars and New Cars alike, NHRA may have already made a decision. In other words it may be too late. If all the Old Cars said "We are not going to attend any National Events.....NHRA would probably just say......Oh!..OK...Have a nice day!! JMO I still luv everybody, Old Car and New car alike. RJ Last edited by RJ Sledge; 09-09-2014 at 09:29 AM. |

Michaes, just because is the only answer. Complete factory specs are in the book, the bodies are well known, and the motors are already there in the64/65 models in CC or BB or something like that. Barton, John Dourlelt, Chuck Rayburn, Jim Bailey come to mind on those. Now someone would have to police the front frame rails, of course the 9 in tires, and no tubs, they came with a Dana, and lots of stuff are already allowed in Stock; light brakes, roller rockers, light seats (which they had anyway) I think BB.

Now, what could be simpler than adding a couple of vinyl X's in front of the FX cars' class designation? No heads up between non -X and X cars ,ever. X cars run their own Combo class. FS special shootouts subject to AHFS regs. Jeez, I'm beginning to sound like Bill Dedman here. But, what's the problem with this ? Only thing I see is FX cars don't get to beat up on older, well thrashed muscle car combinations for the factories' benefit. Maybe that IS the problem with this simple solution.

That is the whole point. The goal is to keep your Olds out here racing with the new cars and you not having to worry about travelling 400+ miles, spending $1000.00 (minimum if the race is nearby) only to get blasted by an .850 light and 4 car lengths in the first round. The older cars should always have a place in this class and NHRA should realize that if most racers are happy with the system, they will show up to race (which equals entry fee $$$$). The car counts have been slowly dwindling over the past few years at most races except Indy. The ALL RUN field won't happen because it takes the time allocated to other portions of the weekend that NHRA has scheduled ( not to mention increased possibility of further delays from oil downs, etc.).
