The oldies but goodies sight has some great pics. The (this is ford country) store pic looks like the old Ed Martin Ford store on shadeland ave accross from eastgate shopping center back in the days.

Back in the mid-60's, cruising the main drag, scooping the loop was the thing on Friday and Saturday nights. jacked up rears was the in thing. Those of us who couldn't afford air shocks put the car on a lift, let the rear hang free, and put a length of 2x4 between the axle housing and rear frame rail - instant rake and a solid rear suspension. We could get a 289-powered 64 Galaxie to pull the front wheels with a bit of bouncing,
I had a friend with a '64 chevelle, 292 and 4-speed, with the above mod. The car did have a wicked idle. On cruise night we'd put a guy in the trunk. We'd pull up next to some hot shoe and the "trunk guy' would start shaking the car. Between the idle and the shake, the guy in the car next to s was like "wtf?" |
