Don't know how the record could stand if it isn't.

Seems as though somebody really dropped the ball with these cars from the start....

Ford for knowingly sending them out with 1000+ HP and not sufficient chassis and NHRA for grossly underestimating the HP and thus their capabilities.

And all this in conditions that appear not much different than Indy.......wait 'till they get to good air.

Would you feel the same if the badging on the grill or fenderwell was GM, or Chevrolet

8.47 eh!
Got to have a SFI 25-5 cage for quicker than 8.50.

Ask Bo Butner....got a year off for that.

With nearly a 20 mph headwind as well - just wait until tomorrow morning to really see what it will run. From what I remember, it looked like an 8.50 cage and not a 25.5.

It is probably closer to a 1000HP. The classification guide lists the coupe at 500HP with a shipping weight of 3220 lbs which gives it a factor of 6.44 making it a natural SS/A or SS/AA car (6.00 - 6.49). In order to run at the class minimum, 220 lbs would have to be removed from the car. Assuming that it was possible to do so, Hopkins would be at the same weight (3000 lbs) as the SS/AH cars. His ETs and speeds are pretty much equal to what a Westcott or Barton powered SS/AH will run, and I am pretty sure that they are right around 1000HP.
