On the 271 HP Falcons.
Why were they never offered?
One word.
MUSTANG
Falcon's did not even get a 4 barrel carb until 1967
271 HP motors were in limited supply and Mustang got all priority.
Edict from Iococca
64 271 Comets were never available as a RPO option. Only as a special order "build deviation" ala GM COPO.
The few that were built went to racers. Most with dual quads or webers in the trunk destined for B/FX. 4 speed only
"K" code in a 64 Comet was referred to as the Challenger V-8 289-210 HP and avialable with any trans.
Low compression Mustang motor with the larger 600 CFM 390 FE carb.
Long story on how that came about. Payback to Iococca.

By 1965 271 HP became a RPO option in Comets.
Automatic 271 HP in Fairlane only in 1965. Mustang 271 got it in 1966 and 67.
Comet never did.
Hope that clears some of the 289-271 info up.

Talking Re: cars that were built but not in the guide?

I always thought it was peculiar that the Z-16s had the different trunk trim and tailights from the 300 series cars instead of the SS tailights. I've seen a few of them over the years, mostly at Super Chevy events. The best clone I've seen is that red one that runs on the Nostalgia Super Stock circuit.
Alan,,,I'm glad you remembered that Dan Blocker's car was a Butternut Yellow/Black vinyl top combo,,,I was going to nail you on that one.LOL.
Is there a good book out there on the Z-16s or a website? Thanks for any info.

Not true
Automatic 271 HP in Fairlane only in 1965.
they built about 50 in 1964 had a Light Blue one, when I went looking Bob Ford in Dearborn had 2, a dark green and the light Blue at the time Paul Havey ran Bob Ford.
BTW the 64 auto cars had the dual chamberd exhaust. Sticks had large single exhaust.

2001 Mustang Bullitt

Ford made over 5,000 of those......as of 3 months ago it was not listed

However, I do remember a certain late model Stang that can never be registered for the street and only 50 were made quickly gets into the guide.....
