H*ll, you can run an IHRA Sportsman National for $150, and a full National for $190. What's the full purse structure look like at the NHRA Div. 2 events? Thought about trying to go to a couple this year, but am reminded from time to time, "Why?"

Bang for the buck: Two Divisionals and a Sportsman National coming up at Immokalee, FL, Feb 6-8. 3 days, 3 races, no sitting around. Ralph Hester is an outstanding host -- one with a SBC-powered ice cream maker! Casino right down the road.

Florida's unemployment hits 16-year high
By Marcia Heroux Pounds | South Florida Sun Sentinel
11:14 AM EST, January 23, 2009
Florida's unemployment reached a 16-year high in December with a rate of 8.1 percent. Palm Beach County's unemployment reached 7.8 percent in December and Broward is at 6.8 percent, according to a report released today by Florida's workforce agency.

December's rate represents 752,000 jobless. The unemployment rate is 0.7 percentage point higher than the revised November rate of 7.4 percent and is up 3.6 percentage points from the December 2007 rate, said the Agency for Workforce Innovation.

The state's current unemployment rate is the highest since September 1992, when the rate was 8.9 percent. Florida's rate is 0.9 percentage point higher than the national unemployment rate of 7.2 percent.

While the biggest job losses continue to be in construction and related trades, unemployment is now spread across most industries in South Florida.

Yep! let's raise the entry fees!

You might be missing the point. If they lose one or two entrants the increase to those who attend covers the difference. Besides as written elsewhere they believe people will do what it takes to get to race. They keep testing the charges to see where it really affects the attendance numbers. I know thats how they limit the crowds at some events. Increase the cost till the crowd attending decreases.

The proof will be in the puding. The car count will tell. Not just in stock, but in the super catigories also. The logic behind what Mr. Butler is saying maybe correct for NHRA, but in the real business world, you don't want to push away any potential consumer. Even if you loose one entrant, the entrant usually brings along at least one crew member, now you loose both. Both may buy a tee shirt or something from the concession stands. It starts to snowball, just like the economy is doing now.

They continue to raise the sportsman entry fee with NO purse increase, BUT remember they do have to pay for those Alcohol cars that can't draw a crowd. Looks like 300 racers in the pits paying higher entry fees so 16 other racers can afford to run their cars.

Most of the tracks have raised thier "Gate Fee's" this year. I guess I have been away from racing Divisionals or Nationals for too long, I remember when the Entry fee was for car and driver.

I for one think its outragouse that these tracks are charging full gate fees just to go in and park. Oh yea thats right they offer a "Test" session on Thursday as well, for yet an additionall fee. I think If you are buying a three day race credential they could let you at least park the day before without hitting you for that too.

Let alone the $$$ inflated TEST N TUNE... usually most TnT's cost a $10. tech card, why is a divisional $50. or higher?
