As posted on Inside Comp:
12 cars! ( In Pomona ) Regardless of the many reasons for the decline in comp entries. It is time to revitalize the class. Each and every 7 and 8 second Copo, Stang, and Challenger should have a class and the OPTION to run Comp. Throw those badass Hemi Cudas in there too. Any category that runs a shootout, pretty much runs the car out the back door so indexes should be able to be pretty much spot on out of the gate. I hear that many Stock and Super Stock guys can't get into national events due to quotas. This would allow cars to Step UP to COMP, and open a spot up for people who want to support NHRA and are being turned away. Don't make it mandatory, but give them the choice. It is not uncommon for the real fast cars to run the shootout or class and then head home rather than participate in eliminations. Give them a place to RUN IT OUT! This could be a win-win. Factory support of Comp cars would be great. Quite honestly, many of those cars would have a better shot of winning in Comp as well being that there are 32 rather than 64 or more. Go Ahead... Flame Away! Pete Hanratty A/DA 189 ( And wanna be Stock racer ) |

My thought for several years has been to take the cars in SS with non-factory hood scoops and put them in Comp. I don't think they look like a SS car to me. My $.01.

Pete, I think your idea is strong and has merit. Not all of the COPO,
Drag Pak, Cobra Jet owners are died in the wool S/SS racers, and some may find what we do with breakout racing a little funny. Having a place to showcase their Barton/Patterson/Holbrook/Westcott motors with a better chance to win should be appealing to quite a few, and is a good way to bolster Comp. J.R. |

Sounds like a good idea. If I remember right, the last qualifying ladder showed roughly the top 24 places taken up by Copos, Dragpacs and Mustangs, there could be your reason the little racers aren't getting in. Making it soft to appease the big three new cars.

Put all the comp class cars they put in SS back in comp such as ss/as, ss/am, ss/vx etc. Put all the drag pac, copo, cobra jets in SS.
