Ok I have been kicking around the idea of building a C3 corvette stocker, the car I have in my garage has the original IRS with some performance upgrades ( been a bracket car for years) can anyone share some pictures or ideas on rear suspension choices (full length 12 bolt or Toms upgrade stuff) I am planning on going with the 71-72 350 Qjet combo so its not a big HP car. any help would be appreciated thanks.....fred

I agree with Chad, you dont need all the hassle changing to a 12bolt. Trailing arms are just one of the problems, keep what you have.

I am in the process of making a stronger I.R.S casting that will accept all 12 bolt components. I have been testing this for 2 years in 800 plus horsepower Gen 5 Camaros that weigh over 4000 lbs. Please refer to hammerheadhousing.com and
streetshopinc.com for more information. It will be worth waiting for. Fred Lee 231-740-5534 cell phone |

I was in the same boat only 2 years ago. I decided to put a straight rear in. I took the corvette to Mark Markow's. My rear is a work of art and my sixty foot times have been in the 30's in G/SA. You won't regret it. Barry

since we're sharing pictures. We kept the IRS because the car is an original 427/435 4spd car and we didn't want to cut it up. With that said, i don't think it would be any faster with the straight axle in 60' and it doesn't seem to hurt mph, and we have all of the HEAVY Tom's stuff. There is definitely some room to improve on what's there, but the rear suspension is one place we're pretty happy with what we have. I am working on a wheelie bar though.

Put a 12-bolt in it. Mark Markow's stuff is beautiful. If you ever decide to put a 454/425 in it (making well over 600 pounds of torque) or a 4-speed, you are going to want the 12-bolt and regret spending all that money on the Tom's stuff.
