I was wondering if anyone would know/remember who had the Quickest and Fastest Corvette in natural SS/LA of all time. I could not find any Corvettes in SS/LA at all in Nitro Joes Stats. Maybe there are none in that combination, but must have been at some time or another. I believe the combination fits 58-60 Corvette 283 single 4GC/WCFB and powerglide.

Wade, I believe a long time ago John Lingenfelter had a mid 1970's style Corvette that ran in L or M, but I can't recall exactly. Needless to say if it was Lingenfelter's it was pretty fast!

Indeed. John Lingenfelter's then-SS/MA '73 Corvette (I think 350 cid 195-285). Ran a 10 in SS/MA WAYYYY back when. It's now a SS/IA-JA combo. Russ Linke has that car now, runs 9's in SS/JA with it. Not sure of many, if any, OLD old Corvettes in SS/LA-MA in recent memory. Don O'Malley has a '64 327/250 (or somwhere around that rating) that runs well in SS/JA and KA.

It seams like most of the old Corvette runners like the GT or Modified Super/Stock Classes. Guess they don't like the baby motors much, or maybe they just want to go fast! LOL I was just wondering how these cars did with that combination. Thanks fellas

The biggest chalange you are going to have with your combo is your carb. I would start now trying to get power off now. I think Gene Bich tryed a small carb on the dyno on one of his motors and it was not good. The wcfb is the beter of the two but you will lose over fity hp with the smaller carb. The 64 283/220 up have a bigger carb and i do not think anybody has tryed to get a 63 on back to run for years. The fastest L record was held by me at 10.46 in my chevy II years ago when the hp was at 230. 2012 was the first year anybody other than me to go sub 50s. Good luck Tom

I don't think there ever was one, Wade. Ralph Feola, stick Bill Cornelius, stick Maybe Lou Cuviello? Carb is too small for the 230 hp rating

As far as Johns corvette, it was one of the first to use a lockup converter and thrasted more on it than a prostocker in the the day. Was going to be the first in the 10s at indy then broke it , rented a coptor flew back to his shop got repairs to only have a piece of silcon go into the carb. Some magazine did a story on it have it somwhere Them were the days. Tom.

Lingenfelter's Corvette in SS/LA or MA was under the OLD weight breaks. At the time my '65 Chevelle 283 Wagon was a SS/RA car. Under the new (and current) weights it's SS/NA. So you can't really compare it to todays SS/LA cars.
