Default Canadian Leaded Fuel Ban. Jan 1st 2010?

Hey I found this message floating around the internet and was wondering if anyone else has heard anything about it? Guessing if its true theres no more extensions or anything else. Sounds like we are in a world of trouble again...

Hello: motor sport enthusiasts.
Hope this letter finds you all well.
This is a reminder that leaded race fuel may no longer be available as of January 1st 2010. According to federal Gasoline Regulations documents from the Department of the Environment, regulations were amended in 1994 to add a 2 1/2-year exemption for leaded gasoline imported, for use in competition vehicles.
This exemption has been extended three times, in 1997, 1998 and 2003. Then it was extended Dec. 31; 2007.This exemption will no longer be in place as of Jan. 1, 2010.
There are other factors involved with the proposed ban on leaded gas. How will it be enforced? Will there be government officials at each and every racetrack, checking the fuel cells of each race vehicle?
The document can be found on the Government of Canada website, under Canada Gazette Part 1, Dec. 22, 2007.
Please feel free to contact me at any time for further information

Hmmm it sounds like the government is dictating what racers can and cannot do. This will put another nail the coffin for the IHRA races in Ontario Canada and probably hurt tracks like Luskville, Que,.Napierville, Que for divisional races.

Also what are the local series going to do? We have a greats series in Southern Ontario (Can-Am Stock/Super Stock) kinda wondering what will happen there?

As well as numerous other traveling associations like the NAPA Quick 32 , TNT 10.90 Hot Rod and OSCA, they have large followings that utilize high compression gas engines that run on leaded fuel.

Just seemed so strange that all summer there wasnt one word said by anyone about what was taking place behind the scenes to resolve this issue.

Andrew:
You are right. We heard nothing all summer, then this.

Hopefully somebody can fill us in here soon.

Tomorrow, I'm going to try and find out some details. I do know that VP had been working on something, just have no info.

It's total BS....has been proven that 99% of leaded fuel in Canada is used in aviation.....1% used in motorsports. This is just more useless legislation

Hey everyone I found this in an e-mail I received this morning. Thought I would post it for everyone.

Canada's Gasoline Regulations have prohibited the production, import and sale of leaded gasoline since 1990. Since 1994, the Regulations have exempted the use of leaded gasoline in competition vehicles. The exemption expires on December 31, 2009, after which time production, import or sale of leaded gasoline for use in competition vehicles will no longer be allowed in Canada.

Environment Canada intends to consult with stakeholders in early November 2009, on whether to continue to allow the use of leaded gasoline in competition vehicles.

If you would like to be included on the stakeholder distribution list, please send an email to OGAED@ec.gc.ca with your name and email or mailing address.

I sent them a note saying I support continuing the exemption for leaded fuel for motorsports.
We all should.

Can't they see that this affects any type of racing from Go Karts to Formula One cars, power boat racing, motorcycle racing; all of this creates revenue yet it's OK to let air planes to burn the same leaded fuel.

Looks like politicians are stupid no matter which side of the border they are on.

Good luck guys,
