Default Tulsa going NHRA in 2010

Posted on the Tulsa board by track owner Dan Guterman

We are excited to announce that beginning in 2010, Tulsa Raceway Park will be sanctioned by the NHRA. After a long and successful partnership with the IHRA, the time was right to make the move back to the NHRA. Although we will no longer host the Sooner Nationals, the Lucas Oil Spring Nationals are scheduled for May 14-16, 2010. For those that still need a fix of the jets, Thunder Jam 8 blasts into Tulsa on July 10.

Personally I don't like to see this. IHRA is so much easier to run at and they like sportsmans.

Steve what is it that makes you feel IHRA is better to (Spotsmans ) then the NHRA is? And why is IHRA easier to run at?

No grade points. A person does not have to travel all over Gods green earth just to be able to race a national event. IMO. I am not saying that NHRA isn't a great place to race, but they make it as hard as possible for a sportsman racer to particapate IMO. Some folks do not have that kind of money to do that and shouldn't have to IMO.

This is not to say that if I get a chance to run a NHRA event I would not be there because I would.

This leaves CRANDALL the only 1/4 mile IHRA track around this area. San Antonio gone and now Tulsa gone........there is Amarillo but it's not much to talk about.

I think it will be good for both. I think IHRA needs to pull back and concentrate on the SOUTH where the majority of their tracks and racers are located.
We loose Tulsa and gain VMP pretty good swap I think.

I'll agree 100% Chip. They do need to focus more on where the majority of their racers are. I'd also take VMP over Tulsa any day.

Sounds like a plan to me.

That is pretty confusing. The O'Reilly Spring Nationals are scheduled for April 9-11 at Houston. May 14-16 is the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals at Atlanta. Maybe Dan is referring to a Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Div 4 event they will have next year.

NHRA's national event schedule is already set & posted. I agree with Bob Orme that the most plausible explanation would be a new location for a "Lucas Oil" D-4 event. Houston's national event is set.
Looking at the 2010 NHRA schedule, it would put a D4 event just south of Topeka on the weekend before Topeka's national event, and we all know how they like to catch us coming and going with division races surrounding nationals.

Unk

After I ask he did say it is a divisional. Also he replied to someones eleses question with this.

--/quote/--
Yes, TVRP will have their divisional. We got Houston's second race.
