Well I guess we lost Island Dragway.A track thats right in the heart of the division.I'm sure some will get on here and say good "The track sucks, the shut down is too short, blah blah blah".But if we keep losing venues travel costs will keep alot of the lower buck guys home.
BTW short shut down area.Garlits went 200 mph,but jeez he had to use a chute. Ed F.

Island does suck...treated us like amateur bracket racers at the east coast s/ss race this summer. Track personel were nasty. ...Christmas tree was on the wrong setting...nice sitting on your trans brake until the converters ready to come through the floor.

The current ownership has no use for our type of racing, especially an open. They are more geared up for fart pipes and warped tour shows. And of course the VW waterfest. They also have curfew limitations . If they booked in some fast exhitition stuff and advertised it they could probably put some asses in the stands. But I think that would be too much work. Joe; I wasn't aware of the tree problems.I think those problems could be worked out.I always have a good time when I go to Island. And I just noticed they killed the early season open at MG.What's with that? Ed

Joe:
I see your points you made. I think those issues could all be remedied with a meeting with the East Coast S/SS leadership team and the track management. I would prefer to work with the owners and sort things out rather than condemn the situation and walk away. We need every track we have, especially those with history. I also think if things were sorted out, more people would go there than making the trek to accross the border. And Eddie F; Your suggestion for E'town is on target also. Again, lets sit down with the track management and find a common ground. I'd rather see the Open combined with another attraction, and advertised as you mentioned, than just cancelled. (No Water Fests please!) And make sure it's not during the hot muggy days of July or August!! Just my 2 cents. JC |

Regarding E-town they only have a certain number of "noise days" where they can have unmuffled vehicles. #1) I think all of them are spoken for. #2) Even without the alcohol cars we'd still need 3 days because then they'd wanna run Top Dragster / Sportsman. I wouldn't hold my breath on getting 10 noise days dedicated to NHRA races.
Call me crazy, but what about ESTA Safety Park and Spencer Speedway in northern New York? I have never been to either but I wouldn't mind paying a visit if I were given an incentive to make the long trip (an open or a divisional). Were points races or national opens ever held at either one in the past? Or are they too small to handle something like that? Likewise with Capital Raceway in Maryland?

For once Ed F.and I agree on something I had no problems at Island and was looking foward to going back next year.
Jim what`s your problem with having some races in Canada?Too far to travel for ya?It does give some of the northern guys a chance to race at their home tracks.

Ed, I'm just happy that even with the tough economic times, Gary has stepped up to sponsor the shorter four race series.
Mike, I used to race at ESTA quite frequently when I lived closer to Syracuse. I like the people that run the place a lot but the facility is not what you are used to. They recently did a lot of work to the racing surface and installed nice scoreboards but space would be a problem for an open. They do have a Stock/SS combo race usually in August. Tjhat might be a good time to try the place out.
