With less gas tax revenue and aged electrical grids pushed to their limits taxes will have to go up unless the federal government chips in which of course spreads to us all. California, Oregon and Washington will eventually replace the fuel tax with a Vehicle Miles Travelled tax. This will make electric vehicles and highly fuel efficient vehicles pay their fair share. They have studied it for years. It's just a matter of time before the legislation is approved.

Understood, but don’t think VMT is inevitable at all. Even with the appointment of Buttigieg as Sec. of Transportation and his endorsement of VMT it’s got some hurdles. And does anyone believe gas taxes will go down even with VMT? It will be just another government program/bureaucracy.
