Mike,

Thank you. I thought I was going crazy. I knew I had read it and noted the "poster" and the few posts' they had, I realized rj doesn't do that. I thought it an odd post on this site.

I have the title for my car, and still have the plates and current stickers. Illinois will stick it to you for back stickers if you let it lapse.

Not all states have a title for older cars. In NY, 73 and newer cars had them, in NH cars older than 10 years old didn't need them. My 63 Ply has never had a title and I had it registered for a short time in 71 and 78. My 70 Challenger has never had a title. Maybe I should get titles for both of them now that I live in PA, the state of corruption.

Naw, you can file a certificate of storage and not have to pay the back license fees. I have done it before.

I have titles to all my junks too.

Unfortunately this is a scenario that is going to happen often in the coming year. I was purchasing a race car from a gentleman in Virginia and ran in some problems when he couldn't come up with the proper DOT ownerships after I had made sure he had them before showing up but unfortunately all he had were the bill of sale from the previous owner. He told me he never needed them after all these years racing the car. Anyways the car was found to have been stolen in Tennessee(where the owner was happy to get it back since he didn't have insurance when his corvette was stolen in 72. The FBI has a program they call Automated Vehicle Identification(AVI) which can go back to 1956. If you think the car your purchasing is stolen or has been modified with different automobile get in touch with your local FBI office for help., They've discovered many restored antiques dealers also caught up in this. The information that I've received from the FBI is that it is illegal to transport through any state, vehicle that has a VIN number without it's ownership. CR

The ownership is not the only thing that is questionable about that car. The FBI should tear it down while they're at it.

Vic your correct. Original owner of the race car was Shawn Alex from Ohio, he sold the car to the Torrens. Its been listed on Ebay and RJ.com for quite a while, several people including myself tried to buy it, never got a reply from who ever posted the ads.
